Even without cookies is worth the wait
“It’s just…” Rolling his eyes and sighing, “Jinki, you know you’re not worth the wait.” Kibum says as he munches his cookies-that was supposedly to be Jinki’s at first.
Jinki scoots over Kibum cautiously, and kinds of blocking the view of the younger which result the raise in Kibum’s temper, he munches the cookies like three in once, with a straight-still face, seemingly uninterested with whatever Jinki’s explanation later, which of course a fake.
“I didn’t know, I swear. It’s not like I’d know you’d give those cookies to me. I thought you made them for Jonghyun, or Taemin, or Minho, or yeah, I thought you made them for someone, other than me of course.” He finishes, suddenly fidgety in front of Kibum so he looks down avoiding Kibum’s gaze, searching the invisible coins on the ground.
Kibum shakes his head and keeps munching the cookies, “It’s 8 PM already, Jinki! I put it inside your locker this morning, and even I scribbled my name onto the card, God! I totally embarrassed myself. Go to hell, Jinki.” He shouts, not caring that he splutters bites of his cookies everywhere, and some falls to his shirt and some over the bench he’s sitting on.
“No, see Kibum. If I knew it was really you that give me the cookies I will-“
“-ran to Jessica, thanked her and saying how nice she was for baking you cookies, yeah, right.” Kibum interrupts absentmindedly. “Great that I was there to get this back before she claimed that it was hers.” He looks up, their eyes meeting for a second before Jinki avoids his gaze once again.
“Right. Here I thought Jessica was the only one that’d give me something on Valentine’s Day just because she is my auntie’s daughter, and she might feel sorry if I didn’t get one.”
Kibum’s enjoying his cookies in silence, leaving Jinki frustrated as if Kibum will not take any of his explanations seriously.
“-and sorry for being late.” Jinki sighs in defeat. “I should have run into you the time you take my cookies from her.”
“Point mentioned.”
“And for not reading the card previously…”
Kibum’s eyes widen in surprise. He can’t help but looks at Jinki in disbelieve. He was sure he put the card inside the cookies package so Jinki would surely know that it was from him. God, Kibum just realizes he shouldn’t have put the card inside the envelope. He curses Jinki silently and somehow he pities himself-that he was falling for this handsome stupid guy.
“You’re kidding me, Jinki!” Kibum almost cries his lungs out. There he is, kind of angry, confused about what to say and all, but most of it he’s relieved and he doesn’t believe he feels relieved over a stupidity of his crush. He runs his fingers through his hair and shakes his head frustratingly all the while preventing his lips from smiling.
“I’m sorry, not that I have read the card now either.” He smiles apologetically.
Kibum shrugs and hops from his bench so that he stands face to face with Jinki. “Right, I’ve crushed it.” He takes the enveloped card out of his hoodie pocket and shows it to Jinki.
“Can I read it now?” He asks looking straight into Kibum’s eyes.
“Without the cookies yeah, I guess you can.” He hands him the envelope.
“Why is it for me and not for Jonghyun or others?” Jinki asks while taking the card out its envelope.
Kibum shrugs at first and without Jinki noticing, closes their gap and covers Jinki’s lips with his own in a slow motion-which lasts only two or three seconds because Jinki suddenly pulls back, his eyes widen, his face redden, and his breath uneven.
For the nth times, Kibum shrugs, “Why did I kiss you and not Jonghyun or others?” He asks.
Jinki blinks once, twice, thrice and his brain is freezing to process what Kibum had said earlier, still. Despite he’s very confused, actually the kiss felt nice, but his mind is blank and blank and his mouth is gaping, mute words, what did you say?
And Kibum leans as if to repeat what he had said but only to catch Jinki’s lips once again. It feels nice and this time Jinki closes his eyes.
“I wish I hadn’t fallen for you.” Kibum mutters under his breath.
And it suddenly clicks Jinki’s mind, and the whole things seems clearer before his eyes. “I can’t believe you like, no, love me of all people.” Jinki sounds surprised, confused but happy at the same time.
“I said you’re not worth the wait and I’m kinda hungry back then so I ate the cookies.”
“You bake me cookies, you love me nonetheless.” Jinki corrects him.
“Shut up!”
“By the way, the cookies taste great.”
Kibum shuts and flushes in a second, remembering how Jinki tasted the cookies through the curve of his mouth. It’s sexy he thought.
“I ate them all.” Kibum smiles, not sounding apologetic at all.
“So, can I show off of having you as my boyfriend?”
Kibum can’t believe what he’d heard. But he laughs it up and ends up with chuckles. “Seriously, why does it sound cheesy when it comes from your mouth?”
Jinki bites his smile, “Um, god's gift, I guess?” and Kibum ends up laughing as hard as he can while Jinki just nods. He stops when Kibum hits his shoulder and suddenly entwines their fingers (Jinki’s heart skips a beat when Kibum did that).
Kibum smiles, the first sincere smile since Jinki runs after him. It’s now 8.30PM. He can’t believe it takes almost a day to confess to Jinki. But with their holding hands on their way home and with Jinki’s thumb rubbing the back of his hand smoothly, and him telling that he will surely show off about Kibum being his boy friend, Kibum thinks it’s worth the wait.
