Christmas-themed meme from ilyena_sylph

• Wrapping paper or gift bags?

Used to be wrapping paper, but a while ago gift bags took over my wrapping. Though occasionally something square will get wrapped. I’m also using gift tins and decorative Chinese take-out boxes this year.

• Real tree or artificial?

Artificial. Real ones smell nice, but they are a pain to take care of. Also, the new tree I bought this year is pre-lit!

• When do you put up the tree?

Um…sometime in December? Probably at least a week before Christmas.

• When do you take the tree down?

January, first or second week.

• Do you like egg nog?

Not really.

• Favorite gift received as a child?

I think it was a stuffed sheep. My mother even still has it. *shrugs* What, I was, like, five. My birthday present that year was a stuffed Cookie Monster. Mmmm…cookies…

• Hardest person to buy for?

Dad; I just can’t give him socks all the time, though that’s what he’s getting this year.

• Easiest person to buy for?

Mom; she loves Pink Ribbon stuff, and many other things I can find for her.

• Do you have a nativity scene?

I think Mom has one…not that we put it up.

• Mail or email Christmas cards?

Mail; though I do email thank yous sometimes.

• Worst Christmas gift you ever received?

Well, I got this fugly purse a few years ago…but it was one of those ‘gift basket’ things from Bath & Bodyworks, so the stuff inside it more than made up for the fugliness.

• Favorite Christmas movie?

How The Grinch Stole Christmas and The Garfield Christmas Special. Oh, and those Nickelodeon specials: Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas and the one about the Living Toys.

• When do you start shopping for Christmas?

Sometimes as early as August; but I end up giving people hand-knitted scarves and hats, too, and normally I just choose those from the giant pile of finished ones, which I constantly add to, so I could conceivably have gotten a present back in, like, March.

• Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?

Totally; that fugly purse got given to someone else. I did add some new bath stuff to it, though. And I’ll regift birthday gifts and other stuff I’ve ended up with if I think the person will like it.

• Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?

Dessert.

• Favorite Christmas song?

Gabriel’s Message is a goody; I sang that as a solo for years in church. I also like Mary Did You Know? My Grown-Up Christmas Wish, the Savage Garden version of Last Christmas and Britney Spears’ My Only Wish This Year. But my real faves include Christmas Eve, Sarajevo by Trans-Siberian Orchestra (I saw them perform last year!!!), All Alone On Christmas from the Home Alone 2 movie, and Do They Know It's Christmastime by Wham.

• Travel at Christmas or stay home?

Normally every other year I got with Dad and Stepmom to visit her parents; the other year I stay home with Mom.

• Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?

On Dasher, on Dancer, on Prancer and Vixen! On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen! To the top of the porch, to the top of the wall…

• Angel on the tree top or a star?

Snowflake!

• Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?

With people all over the place, some people I celebrate with a week before Christmas, and some a week after. But generally, unless the kids (nieces and nephews) are staying with us, we don’t open anything Christmas Eve. If the kids are there, we open one.

• Most annoying thing about this time of the year?

Last year it was the damn music piped over the intercom in the store. It was the same damn instrumental CD over and over and over and over… Of course, that went for all the music all year long. But now we have a store radio station, so yay! The most awful thing is the damn crowds. I work retail in a craft store, and the number of people I get in the first hour of the day is mind-boggling.

• Favorite ornament theme or color?

Pink, cats, roses. I even got a pink tree skirt on eBay today!

• Favorite for Christmas dinner?

…Dessert? Um, ham and deviled eggs and I’ve discovered sweet potatoes, yum! Or, rather, yam. *g*

• What do you want for Christmas this year?

A boyfriend! *g* Or a girlfriend, I’m not picky. Some nice fat checks from the older relatives would be nice (again).
