Tim wants to leave the family - permanently. That gives Jason a reason to rejoin it - partially. Note: Talk of suicide. Angst galore. Spoilers for Flash: The Fastest Man Alive #13
*laughs* This was dark and twisted and beautiful. You took my "Tim would NEVER" and made me cry and freak and wail. And your words are just lovely. I won't even start to point out all the lines I like. It was one win after another after another...
You wrote something sharp and jagged, and still soft. Too awesome!
All these stories lately with Tim trying (and failing, mostly) to commit suicide got me to thinking. I am glad you liked it, and that you think I wrote it well. This is a tough topic, even if the characters are ficitional.
I don't think the "let's have them emo/suicidal" works for all characters. Sometimes, I just want to tell writers "leave it alone" because they're trying TOO HARD.
But what you did master here is your capture of the echo. Because all of us have asked "DC, WHY ARE YOU PUTTING TIM THROUGH SO MUCH CRAP?!?!!!?" and secretly, we've each wondered why he hasn't cracked.
In your story, he has.
It works. :]
I also think it's wicked-cool (hah, I'm in grade ten again) that you used this to bring about a solution in the DC universe, too. Jason never had a bridge or a reason or anything to connect him to DOING anything beneficial for the Bat-family.
You give him a broken Tim, and Jay will make sure that family holds. I don't think very much else would do that.
