It never ends for Jack. Well, eventually, we know, it will--and he'll find peace.

In the meantime, I hope he can at least go a good, very long time before he's alone again.

But even if we accept the death of the Face of Boe as his final death (and I'm not entirely convinced it is), he still spends his last years surrounded by bodies . . .

Jack makes me sad sometimes.

"He thinks he must’ve spent too much time flying with the Doctor, because when he lands, he’s off by a century. "

Favourite line. So bitterly funny.

Love the ending. The structure of little flashes of scenes worked so well to evoke the way that memory becomes moments over time, and the weird things we remember really made the ending.

Thanks. I like the last bit best, myself. The sheer quantity of stuff that Jack *can* remember always astonishes me. I can barely remember what I did last week, never mind oh, 100+ years ago. But it seems like it's often the inconsequential that stays. (I have no memory of my Dad's heart attack when I was five, but I remember the walk to the art shack up a big, sandy hill at the family camp we were at when it happened . . .)

And it makes you wonder, when you look back, why that moment when so many others are lost? And is there some meaning in it?

Oh, poor Jack! Some fics just make my heart break for him (and this is one of them).

I think the thing that intrigues/kills me the most about Torchwood is that for all it is supposed to be about protecting the Earth and being heros and having pet pterodactyls and alien sex gas, in the end, it can be nothing but a tragedy.

Thanks for reading and the comment.

Right on for Jack's life. Always the only one left alive and starting all over again with a new group. How sad.

Thanks. See above, re: Torchwood as Tragedy. That being said, the thing that I love terribly about Jack is that he manages to keep going. he doesn't retreat and hide away somewhere, which would be completely understandable, or even flit off and pull a John Hart. He stays engaged, and for all Gwen might think otherwise, he cares a hell of a lot.

oh, very well done. especially liked the bit where he thinks something is a sick joke, or the putting the hub into lockdown just as one more sting in the tail.

Thanks for reading and commenting! While Jack's not generally petty, per se, he clearly didn't approve of what London was up to and if he were to leave, he'd try to cause them trouble if her could.
