Kittens! We have Kittens!
This morning at half past nine Kit the cat climbed into my bed, and went inside the duvet cover. She was whining a bit, and purring at the same time. It felt like the kittens where on their way and I wondered if she was going to have them in my bed, inside the sheet, but she followed me around for about an hour. Suddenly a little puddle appeared on the kitchen floor, and another in H's bed. (A normal "discharge" when labour starts, according to those in the know.) I called H and told her that the birthing was imminent. Kit disappeared into her (rather small) carrier and laid down quietly, just licking herself.
I sat at my desk when I suddenly saw a little black kitten moving around in the carrier. There was almost no room in there, so I moved both kitten and mama cat to a blanket on the floor. She licked Lumos (who's the biggest of the littler, black with white socks) and made a howl when the next one was on the way. Then came Accio, a tabby, Imperio is a patched tabby (tortoiseshell) and Sonorus (named thus since he started meaowing even before he was fully outside the mum) I had to help him out the last bit. The last of the litter is little Nox, black with white marks, just like her dad. I think Lumos, Accio and Sonorus are boys and Imperio and Nox are girls, but I'm not really sure, since I don’t want to handle them too much.
Everything was over in an hour and a half and I moved them to a laundry basket lined with blankets, sheets and towels. Now they are nursing while mama cat is almost asleep. I can't go very far from them, mama cat starts shouting at me when I try.
Here's the tired and proud mama cat with her five little ones, all are eating and seem healthy so far.
I also have to mention that yesterday I had a great evening eating sushi with
pingviini and
kupukello. Nice talking fic and DH and the films (I got first-hand reviews of Equus too, since they both saw it.) A little fandom break, but now I guess there will be kittens 24/7 for a while... And I'll post lots of pics (I have the birth as well, and might post later under a TMI cut...)
