It will never stop raining. This is actually one of the things I love about summers in the south...the daily thunderstorms that roll through each afternoon around 3 or 4. Problem is, dose loan motors doan work too good in de rain. Ma grass, it's high, cher. It looks pretty bad these days, but not bad enough to mow the lawn in the rain yet. One of my neighbors did just that yesterday, which was interesting since it was a girl and the whole thing looked more like an audition for a wet tshirt contest than lawn maintenance. I thought about doing the same thing today but slick wet grass, fast-moving blades and me probably wouldn't make for a good combination. As much as I joke about having big feet, I don't think I want to chop my toes off to fit into a size six shoe. I already have a terrible bruise on each ankle from rearranging my room the other day. I am not a graceful person, it seems. What I am is decisive. Yep, that's me. I've decided to do my thesis on kiddie/adolescent lit, and I *think* I'll focus on the darker aspects of it, maybe how and why we use scare tactics to teach children through stories. This is pretty basic, of course, and has been done quite a bit, so I have to find a niche here somewhere. Given the recent resurfacing of the old debate over whether children's literature is too dark or not, I'm thinking I'll start by focusing on the progression of this "darkness" from lit by the likes of the Grimms, Carroll and Dahl to the newer bunch of writers like Rowling, Lemony Snicket and Philip Pullman and go from there. Obviously, I'll be working with Dr. Lares and the new children's lit professor, Dr. Tribunella. I have no idea who I'll get as my third, but I need to decide soon. Not that I'll have a problem with this, since I'm all decisive and stuff. So, since I'm switching gears from voodoo to adolescent literature, I need recommendations. Titles, please, dears. Your favorites, now or then. Tanky tanky.
