welcome to republican country

i know this is a couple of days too late, but i wanted to wait to really talk about the fate of our country after i got over my initial bitterness. bitching on livejournal sure as hell isn't going to fix this one.
reading all the posts on my friends page about the election has me just as depressed as the outcomes of the election. we all took action, and i thought we had a good shot, but.....
but please, guys, don't let this get you down. i can't tell you all how happy i am that you voted. did you see the numbers? it was beautiful. we will not be fucked over for four years if we don't allow it. we have tremendous power--the country will be ours before you know it. look at the polish solidarity party: a group of students--our age--took down a fucking dictator through completely non-violent means. so don't spend the next four years depressed, bitter, angry 20-somethings bitching in coffee shops. let bush know that just because he scared the rest of the country into thinking they need their rights revoked for "security" or "moral issues", there are still millions of people out there who don't agree. unfortunately, it's very feasable that our rights may someday become priviledges. don't let that happen. exercise them. pick up the phone, pick up a pen, do whatever you can. answer with every means except violence. we're the minority: we can't afford to be quiet. make them remember that this is a democracy. if every one of us contacted our senators/representatives, whoever, about what issues we are having with how this country is run, they might start seeing things differently. we don't know for sure, but it's worth a shot. at the very least, they'll realize that people (well, potential voters. that's all i think we are to them) who will not stand for it are watching. you want to see your country thrive again? don't leave it up to other people. especially not now.

by the way...go obama! i knew he'd win. that man would make a great president.
