Rant of the Day

Le sigh.

After this I promise to be flowers and sunshine all day, but first, let's have a moment of silence for my stats counters.

...

They died earlier this week. FF.net finally got them back up...only all my lovely hits have already moved on to the afterlife.

Eh, I suppose it doesn't really matter. It's just annoying, especially since they had finally crawled back up to decent numbers from the last time FF.net wiped out the hits.

This week, I've tried to be productive ficwise. But it's just not working out.

I got an idea for iyfic_contest, but when I wrote it, it only ended up 150 words or so. Yikes. Usually, I have trouble shortening the fics for when the word count limit is low. But this is the first time I had trouble making the word limit (which is 300 this time).

So I abandoned that idea (maybe I'll post the drabble somewhere else later). And instead I come up with something a bit different than anything I've done before. I start writing a first draft, knowing it will need a lot of work, but around the 900-word mark, I'm stuck. I know how I want the fic to end. But I can't think of a way to get it there. In math terms, I suppose it would be like an equation. A + B = C, right? Ok, so I know what A is, and I know what C is, and I have to solve for B, but I suck at math, so it's hard!

So I move on to a Jaken shard, which I've had the idea swimming around in my head for a few days. Then I write no less than the beginning of three versions of it, and I'm pleased with none. I can't find the right words, you know?

On the brighter side of the things, this week's IY manga chapter was pretty nifty. Kouga teaming up with Inuyasha, that's always a good thing, right? I haven't been digging these latest wolf chapters, but it's looking up. I suppose it would be more enjoyable if I could read the whole story at once, instead of these bite-size chapters. (Still adjusting to reading it one week at a time like everyone else...)

Has anyone read America: The Book by The Daily Show? It's hilarious of course, but did you read the back cover? I took that spoof idea of fake reviews, and spoofed it myself on my userinfo page. Well, it made me laugh and kept me amused for a few minutes, so mission accomplished.
