Anime Ramblings

Ok, so was anyone else depressed on Saturday when they turned to Adult Swim at 11 PM, only to realize that they're no longer showing Inuyasha on the weekend? I knew the new episodes were over till next year, but I assumed they would at least keep showing reruns on Saturdays. Wrong.

Well, 3 days of Inuyasha a week ain't enough for me, so I downloaded a few episodes I hadn't seen before.

ANIME AND MANGA SPOILERS BELOW...

The Woman Who Loved Sesshomaru, Parts 1 and 2 - This was surprisingly good. I say "surprisingly" because I am not too fond of some of the original non-manga episodes, and the title made it sound like this could be another disaster of "Red and White Priestesses" preportions. On the contrary, this story was rather serious and a bit tragic, and the animation seemed particularly beautiful, and I don't really have any complaints. Well, maybe a minor quibble or two. The ending with Sara's death was a bit too similar to Kagura's death in the manga for my taste. I may be wrong, but I assume that that manga was out by the time they made this episode--it's just too similar. And it would be a shame for that to take away from any of the uniqueness of Kagura's death.

Also, was anyone else curious to hear what Sesshomaru's one true desire was, since it wasn't to own Tetsusaiga? I mean, I guess we're supposed to assume it's power or conquest, but I was thinking, what if it was just that he wanted his left arm back?

Speaking of which, I was really glad to see that one scene where Sesshomaru was holding what was left of his missing arm. In the manga, we never see him thinking about his missing arm, or anything, and you'd think he would.

Together With Lord Sesshomaru Forever - Ok, this episode was another original gem. Really sweet. I love the way the anime expands on Rin's character a bit. We really don't get to see too much focus on her in the manga. I LOVE the themes this episode tackles. Here we see Sesshomaru secretly waiting in the woods, his eyes wracked with indecision while Rin is being dragged away to live in a human village. He's going to just let her go and be with her own people, but then Rin cries out for him, and he's off to her rescue, and then he lets her decide whether or not she wants to stay with him.

And what about the excellent job the animators did in that final scene when Rin asks if Sesshomaru will remember her when she dies? The way a light came over his face when she said that, and the look that came over his face too...it was all just brilliant. Really, no fanfic-type Sesshomaru + Rin fluff, no matter how cute, can possibly be as powerful and effective and emotional as his canon stoicism toward Rin.

Well, there were other episodes too, but I've written enough already for now. I'd love to hear anyone else's thought on these episodes. :)
