IY ch 468 thoughts continued

I'm back with more detailed thoughts as promised.

Warning: Major fangirling ahead...

I loved the look on Sesshomaru's face when he noticed the pall-bearers of the afterlife were going after Rin again. It was like, "Uh-uh bitches, you best back off!" XD Ok, maybe not quite like that, but he was pissed. And pissed!Sesshomaru means he cares. Awww.

OMG, the way Sesshomaru touched Rin's hair? That is possibly the sweetest thing I've seen in this entire manga. Sesshomaru isn't one to show affection, but that was very sweet, and spoke volumes about his concern for Rin. And then the "She's alive..." line. I'm just loving this sort of parallel situation to back when Rin and Sess first met.

It's great that Sessmom can see what's happening this whole time, so we kind of get her commentary throughout the whole thing. I wonder what she'll think of Sesshomaru by the time this ordeals over. If he succeeds in gaining the meidou's powers, will she be proud? Bored? Indifferent? Or disgusted over his care for humans?

I loved that Jaken was kind of sweating and his heart was beating when he realized something must have happened to Rin. It was nice seeing his concern for Sesshomaru in the last chapter, but this chapter more showed his concern for Rin, and it was very sweet and a great marker of character development when you consider how he acted about Rin at the beginning. I think Jaken would be very upset in his own way if Rin died.

I mentioned this before, but Sessmom calling him, "Little youkai." XD I got such a kick out of that. I'm so going to use that nickname for him now. And his reaction could totally be interpreted as, "What are you talking about?! I'm not little! Harumph!" Hee. ^^ He goes, "Huh?! Me?! I am called Jaken but..." and I was so waiting for him to say, "But I'm not little!!"

It's also telling how accepting Jaken has become of Rin when Sessmom asks him what Rin is to Sesshomaru, and Jaken doesn't badmouth or put down Rin in any way, he just states the facts that Sesshomaru treats her better than him. XD

And when Sessmom says Rin will die, Jaken's eyes go wide and he seems very distraught.

When Kohaku first wakes up, my first impression was that Sesshomaru seemed almost resentful that Kohaku could move and Rin couldn't. Or maybe he was just considering the power of the Shikon shard. Either way, his eyes kind of squinted, and it made me wonder.

Oh! And I just noticed that as soon as Kohaku woke up, Sesshomaru totally stood up/backed away/looked away from Rin. Maybe so Kohaku wouldn't see Sesshomaru's concern for her? He can't be caught acting like a softie I guess. ;)

The "Take Rin and Run!" line was great. Just more of him showing his concern for her. And of course I love how he totally saved Kohaku and Rin right away, and then tried to write it off as "wasting time unnecessarily".

And then there's the much-talked about "This arm is only meant to hold a sword" line. Yes, as others have been saying, part of it was probably that Sesshomaru couldn't be saving them and fighting at the same time. But I also think that Sesshomaru really believes that, that he's not the protecting type. He's so in denial. It would be interesting if part of the test would be that he just has to drop the act and admit it!

"Let's go. Don't get separated." Does Sesshomaru sound like the stern, worried mother there, or what? XD Don't get separated, I'll go crazy with worry if you get lost! Ha!

I'll say it again. The look on Sesshomaru's face when Kohaku says Rin isn't breathing! Gah! Have we ever seen him look that worried/disturbed before? That line put a knife through my heart.

So what will Sesshomaru do? Walk into hell? Try using Tenseiga on Rin? Show more *gasp* emotion?! Kill Kohaku and give Rin his shard? (ha, I tease on that one.)

But I love the parallels from the first time he met her to Sesshomaru having to save a dead/near-dead Rin.

Do I think Rin will die? Right now, no. But--there is the possibility that she could die for good. That the sacrifice will actually be a tangible one, and that's the only thing that can power up Tenseiga.

If Rin died, would I be sad? Oh yeah. Heart-broken, actually. But, if it's the necessary thing to do for the story and for Sesshomaru's character arc, then it's a good thing. *blasphemy*

If Rin's death would have a significant and necessary impact on the story, then I'd accept it, as sad as it would be. But that's the way it should be when a character dies. If they die, and it doesn't affect you, then the author didn't do its job.

And some of my favorite stories are the most heart-breaking ones, which you wish a character didn't have to die, but they do.

As for Sesshomaru's test, this is most-assuredly wrong, but speculation's fun, so here I go anyway. The last time Tenseiga powered up, it was because Sesshomaru felt fury for another person's sake for the first time. So, what if he has to demonstrate another strong emotion for the new power-up? Like, for instance, showing his tears for the first time? (Inuyasha parallel?) I think it would be kind of neat. Perhaps too out of character, but hey, that's what character development is for, right? I just think (and hope) that it's going to be something major, and hopefully it will take us all by surprise.

And not to go all fairytale here, but what if shedding a tear or some other emotional response was necessary to bring Rin back to life?

OK, the inner fangirl in me will shut up now. :D

In other news, if anyone else would like a drabble, don't be shy! Everyone's requests have been really great. I've got three drabbles done so far, and it's been a lot of fun. These requests are really sparking my imagination.
