There was once a dream that was Rome...

I finally got around to downloading season 1 of Rome. I saw some glimpses of the show on a premium channel here and I thought: "Oh, goodie! I never got past the Ceasar years in the Masters of Rome books so... " Frankly, I'm surprised Coleen McCullough managed to write anything after Ceasar's death, she was so utterly in love with him, it was  half ( Read more... )

Huh. You described exactly our reaction after watchign the first episode. We watched a while ago and stopped after two or three episodes, but now of course after our trip started again and are through season one now. I don't wanna say anything about it right now, just let me know if you keep watching.

ps: I wish Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo somehow... switched bodies lmao!

Hee. Really? Aww, it would be so much fun to watch with you, especially now that I know Mr.B is a Rome buff. See, the thing is even if my mind knew so well that there were 1000 unrealistic things about Gladiator, I felt it got THE most important thing right: the drama of it all because if I want the straight up history I'll watch the Discovery Channel.

What they're trying with Rome is straight up history PLUS drama and I'm just not getting that very well so far, with two exceptions: the Octavians. First, Octavia's story was emotional and well done (that must have royally sucked) and second, Octavian is exactly the little ubersmart CREEP I remember from the books.

Hey, Lucius and Titus COULD switch bodies if they did a crossover with Stargate SG1. :p I'm not that shallow, Lucius is my type anyway, but you know... Titus is taller and has the buzzcut going for him. :D

I'm just as fascinated with the time period, but Rome did nothing for me and I stopped watching after epi 4, but maybe you'll like it more than I did.

Eh, I haven't had time to go past episode 1. I think I'll stick around till Caesar's death and see if that amps up the drama or not.

Spain means Spanish Laura so that's my number 1 reason to be excited.

Geography-wise, I can't wait for Portugal.
