New York Comic Con / New York Anime Fest meld

Overall the con was fun. It was freaking huge.I always enjoy the geek posse that forms during the walk from the Subway to the Convention Center.THE CON HAD ACTUAL BOOTH BABES! There were very few places that had enough room for my Monster in the Darkness costume. More people recognized it at this con then at any previous cons that I've been too. I have Ryoga's sense of direction, so it took me forever to find most places. The staff giving incorrect directions made things worse.

I saw plenty of awesome costumes. There was a Coop with a Jamie from Megas XLR, at least two cosplayers dressed at Dr. Mcninja, Daphne and Velma from Scoobie Doo, a lot of Streetfighter characters, and a bunch of Kickass and Scott Pilgrim cosplayers.

Friday
I dressed as Jiro Tamiyama (aka "Tami")of the Four Great Ones from CROMARTIE HIGH SCHOOL. I'm sure most people assumed that I was cosplaying as Paul Stanley from KISS. The makeup took a hella long time to put on. No one batted an eye on the train going there. A small child stared, but it wasn't my makeup that caught his interest. I was reading a Forgotten Realms novel with a griffin on the cover. The kid was fascinated by the "big bird" and apparently wants to grow up to be "big like that bird".

I got my weekend pass at Midtown Comics. They weren't selling any at the Javits.

The Wizards of the Coast had a huge modified D&D thing where a party would walk on a grid and roll a huge d20. I played the dwarf fighter. One of the party members was mind controlled into making an attack against me(I think she was playing the gnome bard) and rolled a natural 20. The dwarf survived with 1/3 of his hitpoints. We all got buttons that said "Monster Slayer". Prizes were given out for natural 20 rolls.

Voltaire was great as usual. He had people from the audience come up and sing "When you're evil" with him. They all did JAZZ HANDS after finishing the song.

Saturday
I dressed as Tami again.

I watched a panel about an upcoming fantasy movie called "Your Highness". It looks like fun. It seems to have a serious quest, idiot characters, anachronisms, action and gratuitous nudity. It makes me think of a D&D campaign.

I was really curious about Yoshiki and Stan Lee. They are both awesome but in very different ways. I had to see their panel to find out what would bring them together. Yoshiki had a lot of squealing fangirls. It looks like they plan on doing a motion comic about a musical superhero(not so loosely based on Yoshiki). X Japan will be doing the soundtrack. The two men hugged and had amusing banter.

Stan Lee: I wonder how I can exploit this talented man.
Yoshiki: I am happy to be used.

Masquerade was fun. I liked seeing Ganondorf sing "I enjoy being a girl". There was a bunch of X Men characters being random. I liked the Saiunkoku Monogatari costumes. The Avatar mech was epic.

Sunday
I dressed as Ranka from Ouran High School Host Club. One person recognized the costume.

I watched Vampire Girl vs. Frankenstein Girl. It was a hilariously bad splatterfest. It seemed like it was trying to be as ridiculous and offensive as possible. Frankenstein Girl had interesting uses for her detachable body parts(like turning an arm into a propeller so she could fly.)

I saw three Grell cosplayers sitting next to each other during the Black Butler screening.

I spent a little time walking around as the Monster in the Darkness. Some Tobi coslplayer decided to poke it hard enough to tear the fabric. When I told him to stop he responded with "I won't stop until I touch your face." WTF

After all the panels and screenings were finished a bunch of cosplayers decided to play a modified version of Spin the Bottle. This involved glomping instead of kissing. It was amusing to watch.
