I had to wake up today, dang it. I meant to sleep late into the afternoon like I did yesterday, but I had an appointment to attend. After the session I felt a bit restless. I wanted to do something. However, what could I do? It rained all day, so outdoor activity lacked appeal. I planned to read later in the evening, so I discounted that option. Television? Out of the question at the time.
So when my mother announced her visit to the neighbors', I jumped out of my inner dilemma to join her. We dropped off some sturgeon my family caught during vacation as a gift. You see, it's a pun because their surname is Sturgeon. Totally my idea. Brilliant. Anyway, my mother mentioned Conner, and our neighbors commented that he must have missed us. In my head where only I can hear, I scoffed. Conner never likes it when I visit him. He might have missed my dad, and maybe mom. Not me, though.
However, my mom's expression changed. "Actually, the Center told me he's been very tense the past week. He would get to thinking, and he'd break out in hives. He really missed us."
Since I had not heard this beforehand, I started and blurted, "Really? Oh, my God." The news bothered me the rest of the visit and still even after we returned home. I made my decision.
"Mom, I'm going to visit Conner. Then I'll go to the store."
Mom suggested I take a yogurt to feed him, and I agreed. After all, he needs to gain weight, and since he's not talkative, some activity for us both provides time well spent. When I arrived, I found him in bed. Once I kissed him and hugged him over the bars of his bed, I climbed in and cuddled a little. Then I set about to feeding him. At first he resisted, but I explained that he should be compliant since a snack in bed is a rare treat. He didn't fuss much after that, and I didn't dirty him too much.
To make conversation (one-sided as it is), I told him how much I'd missed him while on vacation. "However," I said, "I did enjoy shopping for you. I even kept Mom and Dad from buying you a dorky gift. No, your gifts are pretty cool. You'll like them." He whined, and I told him he would receive them this weekend. Whining again, he glared at me, prompting me to scowl playfully at him. "You can't have them early. My birthday is on Thursday, and it wouldn't be fair for you to get your presents before I get mine. You did remember my birthday, right?" That shut him up. He's pretty funny, even when he's a bit snarly. That's how I am, I think.
Eventually, I had to leave. I never stay very long because he never seems to want me to. He squawked some this time, and I informed him that I wasn't oo keen on driving in the dark and the rain and I needed to do some shopping. I promised to buy him some yummy yogurt, Breyers Creme Savers and Custard-style yoplait. I also vowed to purchase some Trix yogurt, but at the store I decided it contained too little nutritional value on which to waste my money. He needs to gain weight, but he doesn't need empty calories.
All in all, a good day, albeit a wet one.
