Day-Before-Father's-Day Father's Day

Jun 20, 2010 16:55

Have various things to note, so bulleted list* away!
  • Mom, Dad, Morgan, and I spent yesterday together in Louisville.  I put forth the idea earlier this week that we might do something like this, but Dad, understandably, did not want to spend four hours of his weekend on the road.  But then a meeting came up for him, a meeting which took place in Louisville Saturday morning, so...Louisville away we went!
  • Plans were somewhat complicated by me who had a hair appointment in Harrodsburg at 12:15 P.M.  Dad kept dropping hints that it might be better for me to reschedule, but seeing as this appointment was already rescheduled because I accidentally missed the last one...yeah.  Hair appointment away!
  • I left Owensboro just before 8 A.M.  Honestly, I have no idea how I managed it.  I didn't fall asleep till sometime after 4 and woke up at 7.  I was somehow out of the house by 7:28 or so, and I managed to fill my tank and hit the bank (Tarrant: RHYME!) and be outta town by 7:50 or thereabouts.  The only explanation I can come up with for how I got through what seemed a long list of things in preparation for my roadtrip is that I'm still working on Louisville.  Not clock-wise, but allotting-time-for-shit-wise.  In getting everything together, I felt like I was running late; and if I were in Louisville where things are busier and farther apart and traffic's a bitch....yeah, I would have been.  But not in good ol' Owensboro.  In Owensboro, any conceivable Point A is a mere hop and skip from any conceivable Point B.  And most people don't care to be up that early and doing stuff on a Saturday.  So punctuality away!
  • Not to surprisingly, then, I got to Harrodsburg early.  This was also because I forgot to subtract the additional driving time it takes to get to Danville from Harrodsburg, and the 'Boro 2 D-ville drive is a little less than 3 hours.  (And a considerable less if I speed most of the way.)  So I stopped by the Kroger across from my hairdresser's and bought a super cute/funny/self-abusing Father's Day card.  Last-minute-card-purchase away!
  • Also, ordered my dad's F-day gift online on Wednesday, and found out Thursday night it won't arrive until July 9th while we're away on vacation.  Egregiously-late-gift-giving away!
  • I showed up for my apointment early, expecting to read a magazine while I waited for my hairdresser to finish with her curent client.  But by a stroke of luck for all involved, she'd already finished with that appointment by the time I arrived, so I we got an early start on mine.  And it was time I actually ended up needing because it took a while for A (I may have referred to her by name before, but I forget, so I'll just go anon with her this time) and me to sort out what we'd do with my cut and color.  First we settled on a nice, rich burgundy color, and while we waited for the dye to do its thing, we brainstormed cut stuff.  I kept the bob, but also the overall length for the most part.  Utterly straight, my hair in front reaches just above my collarbone.  I can't remember the last time my hair was so long.  Maybe high school or freshman year of college.  Anyway, it's a bit shorter in the back, but not too much so, so that I can still put my hair into a ponytail if I want.  My favorite part of the cut, though, are the bangs.  I've kept the sidesweep style, and now the angle of their cut is more pronounced than when I was growing them out.  I think they're perfect: piece-y but not too piece-y, and chunky but not too chunky.  A styled them very well, and as long as I continue to do that for myself, they should remain awesome.  Overall, I would call the cut fun, clean, perky, and/but totally ALT-appropriate.  I can look like an instructor at work, but look like the more or less carefree 20-something I am in my free time.  So awesome hair away!
  • After my appointment finished, I called Dad to figure out where to meet up.  He was at Oxmoor shopping for some shorts and such at Dick's.  He said he'd stopped by the Apple store and checked out the laptop I've been considering.  He thought maybe it was too heavy for travelling around with it in Japan and suggested I come to the mall to compare with him there and such, since Owensboro doesn't have an Apple store and he rarely has a chance to go up to Louisville.  So Apple store away!
  • When it comes to making a purchase between two more or less equal things, I realize my preference early on, but still hold back from making a definite decision until I feel I've considered all the options.  It's like I already know my final choice from the beginning, but I still entertain all the possibilities before I actually make the choice because I want to know for sure that I'm making the choice that's right for me.  I did this with college, for example.  I pretty much knew I wanted to go to Centre and had no huge reasons to suspect they would not accept me; and even though I didn't apply to any other schools after Centre accepted my early application, I did think about other schools and what my life might be like there.  So when I officially told myself "I am going to Centre", I knew what I was choosing even though I'd already known it for a while.  I think I'm making sense.  Anyway, my dad figured we might as well buy my laptop while we were in Louisville, so after a month of contemplation and debate, I ended up getting the laptop I wanted from the start.  MacBook Pro 15" away!
  • Found out two things after purchasing said laptop.  1) My dad might have considered buying the whole thing for me for my birthday, but when I offered to split the cost halfways or whichever way he was comfortable with, I cut his consideration short, and he just went with it.  It would have been a gamble, but if I'd only kept my mouth shut...  Actually, though, I think it's worked out well because if he'd agreed to buy me a laptop for my birthday and trip/work abroad, then the choice of model would ultimately have been up to him.  As it is, I've got the model I want, and if I'm $1,000 in the hole for that, well that's a gamble I'm glad I didn't make.  2) After purchasing said laptop, Dad informed me that I will only receive it when my mom deems me worthy.  This means lots of housework and cleaning and all-around slavery until I can play with my new toy.  Uh, I mean, my new work tool for helping Japanese children to learn English as best I can.  It most certainly is NOT an anime-watching-and-fanfic-writing-and-iTunes-playlist-making-and-TV-tropes-reading-and-Wikipedia-surfing-and-YouTube-time-wasting toy.  Being-an-adult-and-participating-in-reality and *sob* not-being-an-Internet-addict...awa--*hiccup* waaaaah!
  • Dad, Mom, and I met up with Morgan at Browning's for an early dinner, which was nice.  Their portions are ridiculously huge, and/but the atmosphere of the place is great.  And they have amazing beers there.  My dad ordered a...crap, something about Satan or hell and women...okay, according to their site, it's a brew called She-Devil.  It's high gravity (apparently), and I had a very small sip to taste (high gravity means there's a greater amount of alcohol in the beer, so they serve it in half-pints, and as such, I didn't want to hog my dad's drink).  And from that one small sip, three minutes later after/while I was working on my soda, I had a burp that tasted exactly like the beer.  It was the kind of burp that comes after drinking an entire can/bottle of beer.  (I didn't belch aloud to the restaurant.  I luckily anticipated the burp just before it happened, so I kept my mouth shut for it.)  So yeah, Browning's Brewery...high-gravity-microbrew-burp away!
  • After dinner, we went to the Baxter to catch a flick.  We saw Get Him to the Greek, which was pretty funny and enjoyable, but not so funny and enjoyable that I have any strong desire to see it again.  Like, I might watch it when it comes on TV, but I'm not going to rent or buy the DVD.  Sean Combs gave an hysterical performance, though, and he was my favorite character, so if you want to see P-Diddy do his comedic thing, then get to the theatre and see Get Him to the Greek...away!
  • Since we have guests coming to stay with us this week for ROMP, my parents wanted to come back last night and work on preparations today.  They let me sleep in, bless them, which was important for me 1) because I didn't nearly enough sleep Friday night, and 2) because I dreamed about Neil Patrick Harris, and thoughts/images of him are always welcome.  Om-nom-nom.  Sexy-NPH awa--no!  Not away!  Don't leave!  Stay here!  Stay forever!  *deep inhale*  --NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
  • When Dad gets up from his nap, we're going to go see Conner and take him a DQ Blizzard.  Probably a Strawberry Cheesequake, as he's more than partial to those.  (Interesting sidenote: Conner's allergic to chocolate.  I don't know if he even likes the taste of it, but seeing as the boy has recently grown super fond of pimento cheese...bugh.  We are similar in so many ways, but his judgent on matters of "yum" and "not yum" are a mystery to me.)  And I hear m' dad shuffling down the stairs now, so...awesome-brother-fun-time away!
*This time with actual LJ bulleted list formatting, not just my own makeshift crap!
