Contrary to popular belief, I am not dead! Merely just swamped with pesky real life business. As I mentioned briefly before, I decided to join a sorority (Sigma Sigma Sigma) and that's kept me very, very busy. I'm finally officially a member, but then I was swamped with midterm business. Now that it's fall life I'm going to catch up with things like writing fic and posting ADIMLs from two weeks ago.
So, in this ADIML, which took place on Saturday, October 2nd, Emily convinced me to go with her, Katie, and Jessie on a hiking trip near Jim Thorpe, PA. After that, it was the tri Sigma big/little reveal. I'm not sure how prevalent this is in Greek societies, but in tri Sigma, every new member gets a "big" sister (hence, big/little) whose identity remains a secret for a week, and they give their little small gifts and clues, and then that weekend each girl's big is revealed and then we all went out to eat.
So yeah, it was a super crazy day. XD;
Read on for more pretty nature pictures!
Not a fan of 8:11 on a Saturday morning.
Stumble in to the bathroom to pee. Bedhead!
Clothes magically appear.
And then I do something with all this to make myself look presentable.
All the stuff I packed up. And here there's a bit of a gap while we were waiting for everyone to finish getting ready and such.
Leaving campus! I believe it was a little after nine at this point.
I think it was a wise ADIMLer who once said that all good road trips begin at Wawa.
Let's goooo!
We pass through this really cute little town fair that we wanted to stop in on our way back, but we ended up taking a different route home.
Such a wonderful day for a drive.
TUNNELLL!
Emily doesn't like tunnels because she has to hold her breath through them, because apparently the tunnel police will get her if she doesn't or something.
Almost there!
We'd had some torrential rain that week, and it was pretty easy to tell by how swollen the creeks were.
This is mostly because we were wondering how on earth you say "Mauch Chunk".
Big neat clocktower! You can see a guy up there on the top left part of the scaffolding.
We arrive at our hiking destination.
Off we go! That's Jessie in the front, and Emily in the orange shorts.
Hi Katie!
Seriously, it was about the best weather you could imagine.
Careful, Katie!
In case you were wondering, yes, she did yell, "I'M KING OF THE WORLD!" when she was up there.
Big rocks.
Jessie, I don't think you're going to get that far.
I think at about this part, my camera started flashing "low battery" at me, which is about the last thing you want to see when you're doing a day in my life in the woods on a mountain trail that's two hours from your charger. It ended up not mattering too much, since this is also about the part where the trail started to get really steep, and I kind of needed both hands to make it.
Water!
....Lots of water.
Drip drip drip.
Afterwards I learned this trail is actually called Glen Onoko Falls. This is a very fitting name, because there were loooots of waterfalls.
The leaves are starting to change. :D
We stumble across the cutest fungi ever.
Seriously, it was so awesome to climb up a particularly difficult stretch and then suddenly come across another waterfall. It felt so good to just stand in the mist.
Almost at the top now. Not the best picture, but it gives you a vague idea of how steep the drop was.
The big waterfall at the top! Well, not quite the top, but it was as far as we went.
You can sort of see how you can go all the way back behind the falls.
There at the top I decided to take video proof that I'd actually made it that far up a freakin' mountain. Me, the least outdoorsy athletic person in the world, pretty much.
I was only half-joking about dying on the way down, btw. The climb up was steep, I could only imagine what the climb down would be. After taking this I went and joined the others under the fall, it felt soooo good, despite my imminent demise.
No pictures for most of the way down, which, I'm not going to lie, was intense and kind of scary. All the rain that had made the falls look so spectacular also made parts of the trail really muddy and slippery.
But, somehow we make it back down to the flat easy part!
I wish I could tell you that my hair was that wet from the waterfall. But that would be a lie.
Actually sitting in Emily's car! That felt good.
Bye, Jim Thorpe! You're really cute, I'll have to come back some time!
Katie had us take the awesome scenic way home.
We make a brief stop back in town for some treats. :D
Dorm, sweet dorm!
Time check. Phew, what a day.
I snapped this to signify that I was going to take a shower, and then I promptly removed my camera battery to charge it. Needless to say, it was one of the best showers in my life. XD
So while my battery charged, I showered, tried to make myself do a tiny bit of homework, putzed around in Photoshop, and laid down for a brief and unfortunately unsuccessful nap.
And we are back in business!
I realize I haven't had anything substantial since my Wawa breakfast sandwich at nine in the morning, so fiber bar it is.
Read a nice article on the best show you're not watching. Fringe is LOVE.
Head to the bathroom to pretty up a bit before big/little reveal. Haha, can you tell I'm getting a bit nervous!
After!
Waiting with the other new members before the reveal. This was Michelle ES's reaction to the camera, I love her. XD
And then my big is revealed! And for the next fifteen minutes my life is a crazy whirlwind of people hugging and cameras going off in my face and rides being arranged, and then we all file out to go to Chili's for dinner.
I drop off my bag of goodies that my big made for me. Sigma bag! :D
Haha, I love Emily P, who is my roommate Emily's big. XD; I call them Big Em and Little Em.
Me and my big, Shawna. I must confess, I was quite surprised it was her!
Foodohgod. I was famished by this point.
omnomnom.
Our lovely late night dinner ends, and we all pile back into our respective rides. Regan, who was giving me and a few others a ride, ends up taking us on the...accidental scenic route. XP I don't mind, although I am extraordinarily sleepy at this point.
I get home, shower, and pop online to chat a bit.
Practicing oral hygiene, while looking a hot mess. I was absolutely beat at this point, haha.
Final time check of the evening. No other sleepy-type pictures since Emily was already asleep.
Okay, I feel like I have much to blog about, but now it is time to pack. You see, fall break starts this weekend. Buuut my only Friday class is canceled, which means I get to go home today rather than tomorrow, and I get an extra day of break. Which I am pretty much ecstatic about, you guys have no idea how much I need a break. XD
(Also! You may note that I have a new header. :D I seriously love how it came out, it was so simple to make but I think it looks really cool. I love Nightmare Before Christmas season. XD)
