just the facts

I've finished my first semester of grad school. Grades have not been posted yet, but I'm feeling good. Thumbs up.

My company is being bought out. Thumbs down. The closing date is 12/21. My manager said "hopefully there will be opportunities for us all, but there's no guarantee. They have their own operations team. Don't fall asleep on this, if you know what I'm saying."
And so this weekend, I shall update my resume. But here's the dilemma:

If I'm laid off, my company is obligated to forgive my student loan debt. If I quit for another position, that invoice is getting mailed to me.
If I stay with the company, until I get laid off, I can get unemployment and go to school full-time, finishing my program in under a year, and hopefully networking enough to make gainful employment afterwards.
Or, I can stay with the company, and the new owners could offer to "re-allocate" me into a position I don't want. Refusal of offer = no unemployment.

"To live with fear and not be afraid is the final measure of maturity."
I'm working on it.

work, sorrow, grad school
