A Chorus Line: Or Stuff No One Possibly Cares About But Me

Jun 01, 2007 21:08

I was watching A Chorus Line earlier today while the B was sleeping, and I was struck by a question. (Don't even start with me about how most people who love the show hate the movie...it's not exactly easy to see live theater with a baby to take care of.)

So, two things happen in the course of the musical that I believe have an impact on who gets picked for the chorus line, one on the women's side and one on the men's side.

On the women's side, Cassie shows up midway through the auditions, talks her way in, and eventually gets cast. If she hadn't been there or hadn't succeeded in getting into the audition pool, one of the other girls would have been cast.

On the men's side, Paul (the dancer who got his start with the drag act) becomes injured near the end of the auditions, after Zach seems to have become more positively disposed toward him. He really might have been cast if he hadn't been injured, which means one of the men who ultimately gets cast may well have not been selected.

So, assuming Paul was in and Cassie was out: which of the women should have been in, and which of the men should have been out?

Men selected for the chorus line: Bobby (the flamboyant dude), Mike ("I Can Do That"), Mark (sings the song about his first time) and Richie (nearly was a kindergarten teacher)
Women not selected: Kristine (young married girl who's afraid to talk), Sheila (older dancer who already knows Zach), Maggie (the dreamy one, sings in "At The Ballet"), Connie (the Asian girl), Bebe (girl who had the nervous breakdown)

My picks: I think probably either Bobby or Richie would have been out and Paul would have been in, assuming Zach selected Paul at all. For the women, I think either Sheila or Bebe would have been in and Cassie would have been out.

If anyone is reading this and has even hazy memories of the show, who are your picks?
