Once dinner was cleared away the three Noonians, began to finish up the preparations for flight. Which mostly seemed to consist of putting everything loose away, finally Noon and Kirrin looked at their passengers, Noon ushered them towards the stairway that led up to the flight deck, “Safest place for you all is in your bunks with the shutters down and suited up. Keep your breathers in the bunk with you, but you won’t need them in there. Kirrin will be in his own bunk and Pat and I will be flying. I’ll leave comms open so you can hear what’s going on if you want. Or Thing can play you a soothing selection of tunes?”
As they reached the flight deck, Kirrin took over ushering the guests up to their bunks that were above the flight deck area, just below the crow’s nest. Noon and Patrick were settling into their seats and prepping the ship’s systems.
“You double checked the magic button?” Noon was asking Patrick.
“Triple and I’ve primed the laser, it’s not much but if I aim right it can cause some havoc.” Patrick added.
“I’m billing Mother triple time for this little trip, and she can buy me a new ship too. Go fetch the data, cover our tracks she said, it’ll be a nice little trip home, she said.” Noon grumbled as she double checked everything and then tightened her own straps, made sure her breather was hanging from her seat and closed her eyes to concentrate as she clipped the neural interface around her head.
Patrick smirked and settled back “Ready when you are Cap’n. All hands stand by for launch.”
*In other words, hold onto your hats and pray to whatever gods you believe in folks.* Thing quipped to everyone on board. *If anyone would like me to sing a reassuring song or tell a few jokes just let me know.*
“THING! Shut it!” Noon yelled, loud enough for the whole ship to hear.
*Ten seconds to lift off, 9.... 8.... 7.... seriously I know some really quite distracting jokes..... 3.... 2.... 1.... *
Any other words were blocked out as the engines of the little ship released every ounce of power they had and directed it at the ground, at first the ship just shook and then slowly it began to move upwards, as the force on her passengers pressed down on them all. This went on for a few minutes, everything was shaking and a whooping sound could be heard over the comms. Noon loved this bit...
