Stay With Me (Song by The Ark)
I didn't mean to cause you pain
I didn't mean to cause you trouble
I never meant in any way
To be a weight on your mind
Jim felt strained lying once again on a bed at sickbay. They had been on a landing mission and everything had gone swimmingly until just before their departure some weird insect had bitten him. Jim had gone unconscious before they had been beamed up. Now he was waking up but hadn’t opened his eyes yet. He was afraid what he’d see in Bones’ eyes since he knew the older man was worried and Jim felt like he was betraying his friend every time something went wrong on a landing mission. He hated being a burden on his friend’s shoulders even thou the older man never said a word of such and Jim loved the other man deeply.
-Bones, he croaked hoarsely.
And all this time I've been so goddamn stubborn
All this time
So selfish and unkind
Jim was unconscious. Nothing new there. Bones sat next to him in a rickety chair watching over his friend. He was so tired and worn out with his accidents. He rubbed his eyes, they felt like sandpaper. Bones had been watching over Jim since the beginning of their friendship at the shuttle and sometimes he wondered if the young man knew how he felt but it didn’t seem likely. He wasn’t sure if he wanted Jim to know but sometimes he knew he was unnecessarily harsh on Jim.
-Bones, Jim whispered.
-You’re okay now, kid. Spock got you here just in time, Bones was already grabbing a tricoder over his friends body. Everything seemed to be normal again and Bones smiled to Jim, who thought he had seen something warm in his friends’ eyes.

Stay with me, stay with me
Stay with me, stay with me
What in the world could make me feel so real?
Only you can make my life worth living
A crappy day had finally got to the end and Jim was grateful for it. They had lost two redshirts over an accident with overloaded electric circuits. Jim was heading to the ship’s bar to get some relaxation. Instead he found grim Bones in his quarters looking quite unhappy.
-What do you think you’re doing, kid? Bones barked.
-I’m heading to bar and drink myself out, Jim said bitterly as he knew Bones knew he’d say.
-Please, Jim, don’t do that to yourself. I’ve been there and I just can’t watch you go down that same lane, Bones said with a frown on his brows.
-Well, what else is there to do? I’m so pissed out that I can’t sleep now, Jim argued.
-I’d figure out some ideas but they’d involve two people, Bones smirked and Jim looked at him suspiciously.
All this time I've been afraid
That you would see through me
That beneath the tricks and traits
There would be nothing to love
-Bones, what actually are you suggesting? Jim suddenly had butterflies in his stomach.
-I think you know, Bones said and moved closer to Jim. His eye brow was doing the thing Jim adored most and he felt hypnotized by it.
-You’re teasing me, Jim whispered just as Bones kissed him. He had never felt such joy in kissing someone and melted to the feeling.
And no one has ever
Reached so deep into me
No one has taken me
So high above
-You bet I am, Bones hummed to Jim’s ear making him shiver.
-How long have you planned this? Jim asked sliding his hands under Bones’ shirt and making him shiver in return.
-All the way from the shuttle, Bones answered and ground his hips on Jim’s making the blonde man gasp.
-There’s a bed you know…, Jim said and they danced towards it while kissing and stripping each other’s clothes off.
Stay with me, stay with me
Stay with me, stay with me
What in the world could make me feel so real?
Only you can make my life worth living
-I love you, Bones, Jim said sleepily afterwards.
-It’s your grumpiness which makes you unique.
-You know what really got me, Jim? Bones asked while his fingers draw lazy circles on Jim’s shoulder.
-Your tongue. It’s so damn intriguing, he continued and kissed Jim’s ear lightly.
-We’d try sleeping? Jim yawned and Bones agreed.
And it's cold outside
And I'm on the streets tonight
If this pain is just an illusion
Will you show me what's real tonight?
Suddenly Bones woke up startled, the bed was empty and cold. He sat up and saw Jim sitting on the windowsill watching stars. He went to sit next to Jim and saw tears glistening in the young man’s eyes.
-They were so young, Bones, he said shaking his head.
-I know, kid, I know, Bones cradled Jim in his arms.
-I lost them too, and saying it aloud made Bones’ eyes sting with tears.
-Kind of reminds me of Tarsus IV, Jim whispered to the window and Bones remembered all he had ever told him of that time.
-“It’s an awfully big adventure to die”, Bones held Jim even closer.
-Peter Pan, isn’t it? Jim sighed.
-Yes. And now we’d better get back to bed or you’ll catch your death, Bones briskly carried Jim the short distance to bed and covered them both with the old quilt his mom had given Jim.
-Don’t let go of me, Bones.
-I won’t, sugar. Not ever.

Oohh
Stay with me, stay with me
Stay with me, stay with me
What in the world could make me feel so real?
Only you can make my life worth living
Oh, stay with me
Jim and Bones were getting ready in their quarters for the Valentine’s Day dinner with the crew. Bones was humming while polishing his shoes and Jim tried to fix his hair the way he liked it best but didn’t quite manage. Finally Bones got his shoes ready and came to stand next to Jim smirking to younger man’s image in the mirror. He took the comb from Jim and cupped his head on his hand and kissed Jim deeply.
-Will you marry me? asked Bones cheerily.
-What? Jim almost jumped out of his skin.
-Well, you know. Get a ring and gather friends to see the performance and say ‘I do’. With me. Preferably, Bones raised his eye brow and watched Jim through the mirror.
-Bones… I… , the bright blue eyes started to brim over.
-What’s it now, dear? Bones hugged him.
-I just… Do you really mean you’d take me for good? For always? Jim asked to Bones’ shoulder.
-Yeah, you idiot. I would, Bones said with a smirk.
-You're ruining my shirt, he continued.
- Then I will, Jim said with bright shiny eyes.
-Good. We should go now, Bones smiled to his fiancé and he smiled back.
-Just a sec, Jim, Bones slid a thin golden ring to Jim’s finger which made the blonde man blush.
-It's so beautiful, Jim said and his tongue made the little dance Bones loved so much. He took a deep breath and let the moment go, they were already late.
-C'mon, kid, we have a party to go to, he reminded Jim.
-You just wait, Jim wiggled his eyebrows which made Bones chuckle.
Together they left the room to join to their friends at the dinner.
