5 AM is not normal. It just isn't.

But 5 AM was the time I was woken up by what sounded like a waterfall in the bathroom.

Our bathroom is on the other side of one of my bedroom walls, and since we live in an apartment, I typically can hear water in the pipes whenever someone is showering or has the faucet running. I'm used to that. But, last night, our ceiling was leaking (from the vent in the bathroom), and I'm talking like, water just pouring in. Pretty steady for about 15 minutes before it started to taper off. We called on the emergency maintenance guy last night. He came out, checked our ceiling, went to talk to the guy who lives above us, who told him no, he wasn't taking a shower or anything, he had no idea why there was water leaking.

Let me give you some backstory before I keep going. This guy, he's the one with the small child (I think he's four) that likes to run around, stomping and screaming as loudly as possible. Luckily, the kid splits his time between his mom and his dad. But, when he was staying here for a few weeks, the kid used to purposely flood his dad's bathroom because he thought it was funny. Four days in a row my mom had to go upstairs and let the guy know that there was water pouring in to our bathroom from his. (The two apartments have the same floorplan.)

But, last night, while I was watching a movie in the living room and my mom was trying to get a few last minute things done for work on the computer, I started hearing this dripping sound. Our air conditioning vent has leaked before, which is one of the reasons we don't use it. It's a very old building with a very bad drainage system for the air. It's just easier, and it saves us money on the electric bill. I got up to check and see if it was leaking because we had just turned the air on. Nope. Wasn't from our AC. Instead, we had a waterfall in the bathroom. This is the time where my mother went upstairs to let the guy know it was leaking, thinking maybe the kid was there. I grabbed a pot (because I couldn't find the one bucket we have) and tried to catch some of the water. That didn't work out to well, and I spent 20 minutes alternating between dumping water in the bathtub and holding the pot below the ceiling. My mother spent that time trying to get the guy to answer his door, but he didn't. So, there was no choice but to call maintenance since we didn't know what was going on.

Maintenance guy shows up, takes a look, like I said, and goes to talk to the guy, who says he wasn't doing anything. Freaking idiot. If he had told him he was taking a shower or running his water, I would not have been woken up at 5 AM when he decided to take another shower. Caught the water, mopped up the bathroom, and my mother went out to wait for him to leave to work so she could catch him to talk to him, upon which he said, yes, he had taken a shower about 10 minutes earlier.

So, I've been awake since five. And the same poor maintenance guy from last night had to come back out and check our ceiling again. Since the guy upstairs is at work all day though, he was able to go in without having to talk to him and find out where the leak was coming from. A couple of hours later, and the problem is fixed.

Of course, now I'm exhausted and I like our neighbor even less than I did before.
