I realize that it may appear as though I dropped off the face of the earth again. But, I assure you, I have not. All part of master plan to one day become invisible. Like flying cars...
No, really, I've just been super busy with random crap lately. Want a quick rundown? Well, okay, if you insist. I mean, it isn't like you have to twist my arm or anything.
I read a couple of books, and I have a giant stack that I checked out from the library last week. They've cut back on their delivery service to save money, and since I'm one of those people who will request books to be delivered to me if they have a long wait list, I decided to just check out as many of the books I could find that I want to read. The last book I read? Matched by Ally Condie,so I can strike that one from my list for the year. Woo hoo. It was good. Maybe not as good as I wanted it to be, but definitely as interesting as I wanted it to be. I love novels set in dystopic worlds of the future though, so maybe I'm biased. I'm currently reading Swamplandia! by Karen Russel. Every time I think the title of the novel to myself, I say it in one of those cheesy carnival voices, and I'm afraid that if I ever have to say the title aloud to someone, it'll come out that way, and they'll look at me like I'm nuts. It's set in my native land, Florida, and it's about a family who owns a tourist attraction on one of the swamp land islands in the Everglades. They wrestle alligators, but now a huge theme park based on a cartoon-like idea of hell has moved in, and they're going under. I'm not sure if I love the story, so far, but I love the way it's written
Also sitting on my shelf to be read now are five of the seven Tomorrow series. I'm missing four and six, so I've got to try and see if the library has them back in yet. (We're making a run to return things today.) I read the first one, loved it, and am now incredibly disappointed that there is still no US release date for the film. The Lying Game by Sara Shepard is there, though that might end up one that gets returned without reading if I run out of time. The first three books of The Mortal Instruments series, though I haven't started those yet. And there are a few other randoms which I'm sure are interesting only to myself, and will probably be reviewed for Portrait at some point anyway.
Speaking of Portrait, have you checked out the February issue yet? One of my favorite people is on the cover: Dianna Agron.
And speaking of Dianna (see what I did there?), I used a big chunk of my gift certificate to a movie theater to take my mom to see I Am Number Four. I am a little disappointed that I couldn't drag myself out of bed earlier to see the 10 AM showing, because I would have saved five dollars, which would have been sweet. But, I really enjoyed the movie. Plan on writing up a review for Portrait when I'm done catching cyberspace up on my life. I actually thought it was put together better than the book. Although, as much as I love Dianna, she's almost too quiet on the big screen. I feel like she doesn't have a big enough presence. I love Callan McAuliffe though. He's adorable. I want to put him in my pocket. Which probably sounds bad because he's 16 and I'm 24, but I don't mean it the way it probably sounded. Ha. Alex Pettyfer was good. Though I got a little distracted by the way he pronounced some words. But hey, it happens.
I've also, I'm a little sad to say, become obsessed with Australian teen programming. I don't why, all of a sudden, this happened. I just watched the entire first season of Blue Water High in three days, maybe four. And I don't care what they tell you on the internet, I do not remember that show ever airing in the US. Um, but can I say I freaking love it? I so would have watched it in real time. It's adorable in one of those cheesy, I could air on Nick or Disney kind of ways, while still managing to cram in some drama a la ABC family. All in a neat, less than half an hour package. Sophie Luck as Fly is also adorable. I'm glad she's in season two because I'll probably be devouring that next week. Maybe it will even be my next fanfic world since the show has been done for a couple of years, and it's been relatively easy to track down the episodes. It's something that I could definitely delve into.
And now you see why I selected the icon I did. I haven't really even told you anything about what I've been up to the last couple of weeks except for my foray into fictional worlds, and this entry is already way too long. It's ridiculous, really.
Oh, also, why did no one tell me that Emma and Spinner got married on Degrassi? I admit, I don't watch the newer episodes, partly because I don't know any of the characters, and don't really care to, but Spinner and Emma? Who would have thought? I totally tracked that down and watched it. And was highly amused. It was cheesily fantastic.
And now I have to get back to the real world. At least for a little while.
