I guess I'm not delusional enough to think that it should still be running, 20 years late: but it would have been nice to get more closure! Did Joan Chen ever escape from that nightstand drawer-pull? ;-)
I raised my kids without tv - so good onya! We did "gift" ourselves with a home theatre system two years ago for movies and finally got satellite a year ago. It's been interesting! This looks like a fun meme, especially for generating new recs - think I'll try it for July.
I really love the filtering possibilities afforded by DVD/Netflix streaming (which we haven't ruled out as a future possibility)/etc. (If we ever do jump on the satellite bandwagon again, we'll probably invest in a DVR for that very reason). It allows for a lot of discretion, especially insofar as the kids are concerned. Our 3-year-old is a budding cinemaphile -- with really decent taste, actually! So we can't justify a total media blackout, but we can weed out a lot of the junk and eschew advertising entirely :-)
Cullen just told me that Party Down was cancelled, which bums me out. Again, though: we were watching that on DVD, so the news doesn't seem so ... immediate ... for me.
Cullen's choice for #1 was Firefly, too! And John From Cincinanti, but I wasn't really aching to see more of that, to be honest.
Leland is my favorite character on the series, for sure. (Not to be confused as a stamp of approval for incestuous rape, of course). Ray Wise was phenomenal in that role.
Did you know that I went to the Twin Peaks Fan Festival about seven (?) years ago? Ray Wise wasn't there, but I did have my photo taken with a very drunk Kimmy Robertson (who is, somehow, older than my mom! What?) and a very ... multiply intoxicated ... Richard Beymer.
But it wasn't really *Leland* doing the incestuous rape, so there's no reason to take your statement as an endorsement of incest. ;) I agree, he was phenomenal in that role, and it's hard to imagine Leland being played by anyone else.
HOLY SHIT I am so envious of your trip to the Fan Festival! That sounds *awesome*. And no way is Kimmy Robertson older than your mom! Not that I'm any good at guessing people's ages, but still.
Thank you for reminding me that once the Big Apartment Cleanout is over, I totally need to re-watch Twin Peaks on DVD. Since I have the gold box edition and stuff, that might be, you know, good. Also, v. knitting-progress-friendly.
The fanciness is courtesy of my in-laws, who got it for me a birthday or Christmas ago. Tried watching it with David, didn't get far. Not his thing, apparently. Meh.
I also have the video box set, which my parents got me back in '94 or so (again, Winterfest). And I have watched that a couple times. Or more. *cough*

Also, I think this qualifies for "saddest character death"-- or at least "most amazingly intense and memorable character death"! Poor Leland.
