Continuing the Australian adventures...
After Cervantes and the Pinnacles Desert, we headed up to Kalbarri.
The main thing we did there was body boarding - my first time having a go and it was so fun! We went to a beach called Red Bluff Beach, and picked the are where the waves were pretty good... which of course meant that it was super rocky under the water! Once I got the hang of it I could get all the way up the beach on my board. Though I did come off a few times.
We ended up stopping after Sam & I were totally banged up... and after I'd had my board's cord come off my arm, the board went flying up the beach (luckily Sam caught it!) and I almost drowned as I went head over heels in the water and then couldn't stand up as the waves kept knocking me back down. So that bit was fun...! And OMG how bruised I was the next day!!! And yet I loved it and would totally do it again.
Alas, no photos of that, which is a shame.
The other thing in Kalbarri is pelican feeding that they do on the beach. It started years ago when a man who lived across from the beach used to feed the pelican leftovers from his fishing trips. The birds got so used to it that if he didn't feed them, they'd go to his house and peck on the windows to get his attention! So now they keep up the tradition with volunteers coming to feed the pelicans every day (and tourists can watch/take part).
The pelican getting fed here is Percy, who was a cheeky fella! He kept trying to steal (and often succeeded) the fish from the other pelicans!
The next 3 are actually taken up in Monkey Mia, but I thought I'd lump them in with the other pelican photo.
