Work BBQ

Jun 28, 2008 23:37

I finished work at 12.30pm yesterday! So awesome. We had the work summer BBQ - during which it of course rained! The only day to do so all week I think! lol. Typical.

I also found the getting to the bar/restaurant very funny.
(We were bad and didn't carpool - but seeing as we all went home from their and all live in different places, it wouldn't really have worked anyway! Especially as everyone seemed to leave at different times.)

So at 12.30, people start leaving the building. We had S first, with CM behind, then me, then some other guys behind me. Now bare in mind I didn't know where this place was and so had googled the location seconds before leaving, and so vaguely knew in my head where it was. Although S had told me there was a narrow country lane that came out by the pub which he was going to use. But I figured I'd stick to the main roads as it'd be easier.

So we're driving along, and I see S has pulled his car to the side of the road and is in the middle of turning around. (And so I waved at him as I passed.) Then I continue a bit, and CM is doing the same thing! I continue on down the main road, take a road on the right... and then reach another road where I have to turn left or right. And here I'd thought the route was basically go down one road, go right up another for a while and there's the place. So now I'm going "ummm" to myself.

Then I glance in the rear view mirror, and one of the other guys from work is behind me, and very helpfully points to the right for me. :-D From there, I found the place easily.

We did end up reaching it at least 5 minutes before the guys who went the "short" way! Turns out then when S turned down the country lane, 2 cars (other guys at work) were reversing towards him and a dustcart was heading in their direction! lol. So they had to let him out before they could go down (apparently when it was said to be a narrow country lane, they really did mean narrow!).

Even worse was that CM had seen me pass him and thought that I'd be turning around like he did. And so he decided to wait for me (because I didn't really know where I was going all that well!). Only I didn't come back! So he was sitting there waiting, and ended up being about 5 minutes after the other guys! Oops. Although I will admit to finding that very funny.

And so after the BBQ, we got to leave instead of go back to work, and I got home earlier than usual. Although only by about an hour because I'd needed to pop into the bank.

It was really nice though, and funny too. I really do love the guys I work with - they're a great bunch. It's really great for my first taste of the working world, although it will mean I'll be disappointed if other places don't have such a good group of people. And it really will be a shame when it comes to me leaving.
