Poker Tournament, what?

May 05, 2010 12:10

So, we're going ahead with the charity poker tournament here in Regina. I wanted to post the invitation that is being sent out to our guests today. The images didn't copy over from Word, so it looks more colourful and inviting with the pictures. Hoping to have 20 players, with two games of 10. We have 5 volunteers, 2 dealers, 2 cashiers and 1 server. We'll be having a BBQ before the tournament, with food, drinks n' baked goods for sale! We're even gonna have a big clear jar full of M&M's that people will be able to make a guess for $1. YAY!! I'm so excited. I really think this could put us at our $5,000 goal for team Recycled Parts in the GSW. We're already half way there, and between my school fundraiser and this poker tournament, I really believe we'll make our goal!! How cool is that?

Also keeping busy as always with my two part-time jobs and my third full-time job of fundraising and raising awareness. I told the students at my school that if we raise over $400 in our Pocket Change Drive for the CCFF, that I would dye my hair a bright, bold red, like Eva's!! They don't know that I plan to do this anyways, to raise awareness and for the GSW, but it serves as a good incentive to get them to donate. And I'm trying to recruit at least one other teacher to make the change with me, although I don't expect theirs to be as bold (or as permanent) as mine will be.

Everything went good for Tim in Edmonton, and he's home, which means I'm happy. Meg got her package in the hospital, and had I known she loved Kinder Eggs so much, that's all I would have sent her! ;) Making plans to visit family in Edmonton on May long weekend. Lotsa cancer been going around both sides of the family (Grandma - colon cancer, operable and now on chemo. Grandpa - prostate cancer, not sure of treatment until July. Aunt - uterus cancer, had a full histerectomy last month) so I feel it's important to go and see these people as often as possible. Anyways, I think that's it for now. I got a plan for another post this evening, so I'll leave that until later. OH, and James, I'm rooting for you my friend!! I hope you get "listed" ASAP and that the call for those lungs comes soon!!

Anyways, here's the invite. I hope everything is well with all of you. Positive thoughts and energies coming your way!

Much love,

-A. <3

The Charity?: The Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Why?: All proceeds raised from this fundraiser will benefit our team, Recycled Parts, in meeting our fundraising goal for the Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis, to help find a cure for CF. All funds raised by our team will go directly to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, to fund continued research to find a cure, and to support CF families and clinics across Canada.

What is Cystic Fibrosis?: Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common, fatal, genetic disease affecting Canadian children and young adults. Around 1 in 3,600 children are born with the disease in Canada annually, and the life expectancy of a person with CF is in their mid-30’s. The defective gene causes the body to produce excess salt, which in turn leads to excess mucus production in the body. This mucus adversely affects almost all systems in the body, but most adversely the lungs and digestive system. Currently, there is no cure for CF.
