Well, I don't know where you are, but I was in Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham, London and Southhampton, and I heard it in multiple places. In fact, I learnt flatware first from a British person.

Jesus, it's not a big deal. it's a new word that you haven't heard before. I learn new words all the time. What I learnt while I was over there from listening and talking to tonnes of people, some of them Brit fic writers, is that language is very tricky, and some things one person has never heard are used by another. What this tells the American writers is that if we hear it over there it's fair game, because everything is so compartmentalised, it looks like. There is no longer any "we say it this way", except in broad sweeps.

I would really prefer if you PMed me when you have these sorts of complaints.
