Spring Fever Observations

Mar 23, 2007 21:40

Spring is in the air.  The bees have been making their rounds, the birds have been chirping loudly and everything is in bloom.  It's a season of transition, change and rebirth - my favorite time of the year.  Well, almost.  Along with nature's transitions comes the human ones as well.

It's happening with my kids.  Meg is maturing on a level that is akin to adulthood.  She is becoming more self-aware and compassionate as opposed to being selfish and self-centered.  Cory has been on a physical growing spurt that has left me dumbfounded.  Jake is taking pride in his school work and is enthusiastic about his progress.   Rick and I have come to the realization that we've been stuck in a rut.  More specifically, our relationship.  We've been neglecting what is most important to a couple with a family...couple time without kids.

Making a plan to change is proving to be much more difficult than I had anticipated.  We both agree that we don't want to steal away for a mere few hours between his work schedule and the needs of the kids.  We need more, hell, we deserve more than that.  I'm not talking about going to some exotic destination.  Maybe just sending the kids off for a couple of days and staying home might do the trick.  If our finances would allow for it, I'd wisk my man off to a cabin or hotel and do some serious reconnecting *grin*.  All jokes aside, we must do something, and soon too.  Our frustration has been trickling down to the kids and that's not good for anyone.

Spring is in the air indeed.
