Summary: Ueda’s family lives in a dangerous time, his half brother, Ryo, have evil plans and his life is in danger; will his new guardians be able to protect him?
Ueda walked down the familiar halls with his bag flung over his shoulder, boys in their mid teens ran back and forth across the rooms opposite for each other and were throwing paper plains and clothes after each other.
Ueda even noticed something big and brown being thrown right in front of his face and disappeared, someone from where the object had come from yelled with a screeching voice, “My Bag!”
Ueda shrugged his shoulder and turned down to the left, here you could see the significant difference with the less noise and not so much trash lying around.
He covered up a yawn with his hand and tried to hide how tired he was; he had had another sleepless night which had been going on for almost a week now.
His dreams didn’t make sense and the next morning he could barely remember what is was about, but it was always the same dream; pictures and bright colors were mixed together and didn’t make sense at all, but halfway through the dream tit would suddenly change and unbelievable pain would suddenly shoot through his body and he would scream out in pain.
He would wake up sweating and crying in his own bed, alone.
The first time he had dreamt that dream, he had hoped that it would never happen again, but he was clearly wrong.
Ueda stopped in front of the door which had the colorful sign “KAT-TUN”.
He opened the door and stepped inside, Koki and Junno were playing video games in the corner while Maru was cheering on them; Jin and Kame sat in the opposite corner and were practicing their lines for a new drama.
Ueda went over to his table and put down his bag and starting taking out all his make-up, he looked into the mirror and were surprised how pale he looked; he had dark circles under his eyes and his lips seemed less pink than normal.
He quickly grabbed his make-up and started to cover up the traces of this lack of sleep.
Maru saw Ueda and walked over to him and asked, “Still having nightmares?”
“Is it that obvious?”
Maru pointed at the dark circles under Ueda’s eyes, “Yeah, but at least we don’t have a photo shoot coming up.”
“I guess.”
“Here, sit down.”
Maru made Ueda sit down on a chair in front of the mirror and took out his brush, he gently started to brush Ueda’s hair while massaging his head, Ueda closed his eyes and leaned back; enjoying the gently touches Maru did, Maru started to hum to himself.
From the corner, Koki watched them quietly, he was still playing with Junno but he were too occupied with his game to notice anything and kept playing; the door suddenly opened and their manager came in and told them to get ready for today’s schedule.
After the long day, the members started to pack down their things and head home; but Maru went over to Ueda and asked what he was doing now.
“I’m going to the gym.”
“Oh, I had hoped that you might want to go out to eat something with me.”
“Sorry, Maru, I skipped practice yesterday because of our interview so I can’t afford to skip again, maybe tomorrow?”
“Sure, I’ll see you tomorrow then!”
“Bye.”
Ueda jumped up and down on the spot, his hands were lifted up to cover his face while his trainer were attacking him from the sides and the front; Ueda wiped off the sweat from his face and launched outwards, but the trainer blocked the hit and pushed Ueda backwards.
Ueda started to go circles around his opponent while making small jumps up and down, he almost attacked and then went back one step to try to play tricks with his opponent; but he didn’t see the upcoming attack and within a second, he were laying on the ground, trying to catch his breath.
“You’re not putting your mind into this!” Yelled his trainer and helped him up on his feet.
“I’m sorry.”
“If you want to improve, you better train, else you won’t get anywhere.”
“I understand, thank you, sir.”
“No problem, Tatsuya, but take the day off tomorrow.”
“Okay, sir.”
“But the day after I expect to have your mind back on track again.”
“Of course, sir, thank you sir.”
“Good, get changed, you wouldn’t want any fans to see you like this.”
Ueda smiled and bowed before he left the smelly gym, he were relieved when he took off his dirty clothes and changed into his normal clothes again; it really worried him that he weren’t concentrating during practice, why was he being distracted?
After work the next day, Ueda met Maru outside the building to go out to have something to eat, they went to an Italian restaurant down the street; Ueda liked it because of its pasta and also because it was good food for his training, Maru agreed just to be with Ueda.
While they were eating, Maru put down his fork and knife and looked at Ueda; Ueda was hungry and kept eating until he noticed his friend was looking at him, “What?”
“Are you okay?”
“Of course!”
“I’m serious, Ueda, don’t joke around.”
Ueda stopped eating and looked out the window, people were walking with big shopping bags or holding their lovers hand; Ueda sighted, he didn’t know if he should tell Maru anything, he trusted him, but it was personal. But what if it helped to talk about it?
“I’ve had these weird dreams recently, or nightmares, if you would rather call it that.”
Maru didn’t say anything and waited for Ueda to continue.
“I can’t really say what they are about, its vivid colors and pictures blended together and they keep changing all the time; it’s really weird, you probably think I’m crazy or something.”
“No, not at all, continue.”
“Well, some things I had been able to see, one night I think I saw some kind of temple, or palace of some sort but I can’t really be sure about it; but when I saw it, it was like I knew it, I felt comfortable and home. It was really weird, I can’t really explain it any better than I probably dreamt something meaningless.”
“Maybe not, dreams appear for us for a reason. But it’s different for every person, for some it’s a sign, others a warning, or maybe even about the future or past.”
“But I’ve never seen the building before, what does it have to do with anything?”
“Maybe it has something to do with both your future and past. Who knows?”
“I just think it’s really weird, and I don’t understand it…”
“Don’t worry, you’ll figure it out, sooner or later. Don’t worry, I’ll help you.”
“Thanks, Maru. I knew I could count on you.”
Maru smiled and gently took Ueda’s hand and caressed it gently between his hands, he were surprised how long and skinny they were, but they could also represent a woman’s hands; Ueda closed his eyes and relaxed by Maru’s touch, he completely forgot about his dreams for a couple of minutes, which he were thankful about.
**********
Jin sat in his apartment on his couch, and starred at the old wooden box in front of him on the table, the only light in the room was from a small lamp in the kitchen and from the window; it threw a glowing and dark aura out into the room, Jin moved uncomfortable around on the couch while starring at the box.
His mom had called that morning and asked him to come over to her house after work, she had said that an old relative had just passed away and he had inherited something; he was confused and had driven over there straight after work, there he met his mother and father sitting in the living room with a letter.
His mother had looked at him and said, “Dear, did you know your great-great-grandfather, Akanishi Jioh?”
“No.”
“Well, we didn’t either, but in this letter, it says that you inherited something from him. Here’s the letter.”
Jin had taken the letter and read it:
To Akanishi Jin
You do not know me, and I will probably never know you either.
We live in different time and space, but with the same dreams and thoughts.
This gift was handed down from generation to generation.
Dedicated to The One.
Our ancestors could never find him, but now I know who it is:
You
Take this gift and use it well, for you will find the one,
That you have searched for.
You’ve been searching for a hundred years, but now,
Your search is over.
Use it well, and find the one you’re missing
A.J
“Have you read this yourself?”
His father had looked at him with a worried look, “no, son. The instructions clearly said that only the person who inherited this box, are allowed to read it.”
“Oh.”
“What’s inside the box?”
Jin opened the box and inside laid a long leather bag with something inside, Jin and taken it out and saw it was a flute; a really old one, it had wooden carvings around it and the holes had also been carved out into different shapes, the mouthpiece had also and odd shape than the new modern flutes.
“A flute? That’s strange.”
“Oh, dear. You can play the flute, right? You’ve taken classes when you were young! Try to play it!”
“Okay, I’ll try.”
Jin put the mouthpiece to his lips and blew into it, a soft but sweet tone came out from the other and faded into the room just as it had appeared, Jin thought it had been fascinating and started to play an old traditional song he used to know; the tones came out so sweet like nothing he’d heard before, he felt like he could play for an eternity with the flute, like it was magic, his parents sat with closed eyes and listened to it intensely.
Now, Jin had opened the box again and held the old flute in his hands, he felt powerful with it, like it gave him strength; suddenly a melody appeared in his mind, he hadn’t heard it before but it seemed so familiar to him, he closed his eyes and started to play it.
Gentle tones glided out of the flute and wrapped its long nodes around Jin’s body, he felt like he started to float, but he didn’t stop playing; the room were filled with the music and kept rising and falling in strength, but in a gentle soothing way, he played until late into the night before he were able to stop playing, he had totally lost track of time and space.
He put it away, gently, into its bag and the box and hid it under his bed; he quickly went to bed, trying to sleep, but it was difficult, it was like the flute was calling out to him.
In his sleep, it kept calling out to him, but this time in a protective dreaming way, he felt safe with the flute under him.
**********
Ueda lay in his bed and tried to sleep, he had just gotten home from the dinner with Maru and was now lying in his bed; but the fears of the nightmares to come back were making it impossible to even think about sleeping, he growled in frustration and his head under the pillow.
Suddenly he could hear a faint melody, it came from far away but he were clearly able to hear the nodes; he took the pillow off his head and listened, the nodes came and fainted and strengthen in volume but in a beautiful and gentle way.
Ueda laid back down in his bed and his whole body relaxed, it was like he knew and trusted the melody, without really knowing it; with each tone there came, his body relaxed more and more and he felt like he was being pulled down into the deep sea of beautiful colored dreams.
A flute, perhaps?
The melody kept playing as Ueda slowly felt into a deep sleep, not worrying about the nightmares; he gave in to the beautiful melody and drifted into nothingness, dreaming about hills filled with flowers, a blue sky, and a beautiful man whom he had never seen before. But love filled him and wrapped around him and made him forget everything, the sad thing were, that he could not see the mans face; but he could see that it was he, who were playing the flute.
