Kara looks up, pretending to consider the question. "Hmmm...you know, I hadn't thought about it. Do I ever get tired of instilling fear into the hearts of nuggets?" She frowned harder, seeming to be really torn. She shook her head and let her lips pull into a smile. "No."
This was the game now. The chicken fight that they always seemed to stumble into, each silently daring the other to back down, to stand by the choices they've made...or to break them completely.
There can't be a winner. But neither one wants to lose.
Kara nearly jumps when she feels Lee's hand cover hers and lean in. She holds her breath.
She watches for the hesitation, the second when he decides he can't go down that path again, waits for him to pull away and make some excuse or just to leave.
He doesn't. His other hand touches her cheek, strokes along her temple and he just stares at her, taking in the closeness that he'd been denying them.
She's waiting for her instinct to forget her pride and run....but it didn't come.
Instead, there was nothing but...relief. Something unfurls in her chest as she lets her eyes close and lean into his touch, feeling him existing within her space. This is something that she's needed for so long.
Her hand slides down to his waist and they step into a quasi hug, comfortably leaning against each other.
As he embraces her, he thinks there could have been more than a hug, but it's more than they've had in weeks. She feels good in his arms, solid, real, and it blots out all the reasons that he shouldn't be touching her.
The hug lingers, caught between having enough and wanting more and he doesn't want to be the one to pull away. Not this time.
I'm wondering if Kara woulda sided with Seelix (I think she would given how she totally pranked her ass at the end) and if there would have been arguments with Lee over her denial. Those would be interesting scenes.

"I bet it would have scared your pants off when you were a nugget," Kara said.
"Speaking of pants..."

Lee stepped right into her personal space. "For being a liar."

"I never lied, Kara." His tone was deep and rich and serious. His face was close enough to hers that he could feel her breath on his cheek.

He couldn't do this, it wasn't fair.
She offered him everything, and he'd made his choice.
And it wasn't her.
But she wasn't ready for this to end.
Frak or fight.
This is what they were now. But which one was it going to be this time?

They share a smile, a lingering touch. Maybe there can be something more some time. Now, though, it's a start.
