The title pretty much says it all. I am officially on break! Mumtaz! I believe my mother is arriving in a few hours, and tomorrow our fancy first-class Nile Cruise begins! We'll be staying in ridiculously nice hotels (and a ridiculously nice cruise boat, I would imagine) and all of it's free for me because my mom's paying. Ahahaha! We're going down to Luxor and Aswan, and even Abu Simbel! I'm kind of jealous of all my friends who are going to various places such as Thailand (???) and Morocco and whatnot, but hopefully I'll be taking an exciting trip at the end of April to Lebanon or Jordan or Israel or something. So it's okay. Besides, this cruise is going to be nice and relaxing and I won't have to worry about all the craziness of Middle Eastern travel. Like that one time on the way back from Dahab when our bus driver got stopped at a security checkpoint and made us all pretend that we were Italians, not Americans. We were all, "Buongiorno!" "Ciao bella!" "Fetuccine Alfredo!" It was awesome.
Moving on...this week was pretty all right...I totally kicked my International Politics of the Middle East midterm's ass. My Government and Politics of Egypt test's ass...well, I kicked it to a somewhat lesser extent, but I still did well in comparison to the rest of the class. And besides, my hot German/Dutch professor is a real hard-ass when it comes to grading, so I'm very satisfied with how I did. I also finished my 20-page Muslim Brotherhood paper for that same class...I ended up turning in the wrong version that didn't have my beautiful final touches on it, but I think all that was missing was the correction of about 3 typos, a new paragraph heading, and a slight re-formatting of my bibliography. So it shouldn't be a problem. In sha' allah.
In other news, last weekend I managed to get food poisoning...AGAIN. I got sick on Thursday night and didn't get out of bed till Saturday morning. Literally. It was extremely unpleasant. I've been having such bad luck with food lately--I'm afraid to eat anything now. I miss American food like nothing else--lately I've been fantasizing about delicious meals from Red Lobster, Applebee's, Olive Garden, Cracker Barrel, etc. etc. And Panera. Ohhhh how I miss Panera. Sigh. Hopefully my stomach will appreciate the 5-star hotel meals that it will be presented with over the next week.
Last night I watched the movie Brick. It was pretty good--kind of bizarre, but good. It seemed like they were trying a bit too hard with the slang, but the plot was really interesting and so were the characters. I would recommend it. Now I think I'm going to watch Mean Girls. There's supposed to be an AIESEC outing tonight, but I'll probably be doing stuff with my mom. Gaaaah. I'm excited to see her and all, but then not really. Well, sort of. I don't know. She's going to ask me tons of annoying questions about everything and she'll probably make me teach her some Arabic phrases which she will then proceed to "show off" to all the Egyptians she comes into contact with thereafter. Groan.
Anyhow, I suppose that's about it. I think that after break, the rest of the semester will go by really quickly. I hope so. But yeah...es todo. Ma'a salaama!
