thoughts on the first two of the four Evangelion reimagining / recreation / redux movies. If you never saw the series or never cared for it, don't bother wasting your time reading this and go and rewatch the final episode of Lost.
Or don'tFirst off, I haven't watched a single episode of the series in just over

That was probably the line. In my mind, I just connected it with that scene from ep 12(?) with the image of Adam rising, her flashback and scarred chest even though it possibly didn't happen like that, this time around.
that's what the Angel attacking the convoy is actually after
Forgot about this. I think this is the only 2015-era angel appearance outside of Tokyo-3 as well.
There's certainly no explicit indication there's anyone entirely in control of the Angels. I think they wake up in some pre-determined sequence
There's no direct indication of an Abrahamic-style creator god sending out angels/apostles to punish a sinful and over-proud mankind, but that's always been the most obvious allusion. If they are pre-determined in sequence, surely someone has to do the predetermining.
I will maintain we don't know enough about the new incarnation of Rei just yet.
I don't think anyone can say it's a clear-cut Luke and Leia situation. Even if she is closely genetically related to him, the fact that she isn't his mother and their relationship isn't maternal means I'm prepared to give it the go ahead. I am biased though: I love Rei and I want Shinji to hit that shit like the fist of angry God.
1.* incidentally gave rise to the theory that they're all held in the moon; the scene when Kawru wakes up, seems to show what look like other opened coffins or silos in the moon's surface, and that the Angel's have been waiting here to be released.
That's exactly what I assumed. I think the materialisation zone must have been something Gainax hadn't really considered too much (how long had Sandalphon been a dormant embryo in that volcano before Nerv found it?), but this time they're not letting a single plot hole go unfilled.
