Also, a belated hallelujah that Team 8 have returned in all their glory to the manga, and a heartfelt request that everyone who gives a damn get on their knees RIGHT NOW and start praying that Kishimoto will not fuck things up with them. (If it turns out that Hinata has been added to the increasing roster of female medics, I will scream and hurl things.)
And I'd really like to know why everyone and their dog seems to be convinced that this upcoming arc will have Hinata either getting seriously wounded and/or die nobly to prove her love for Naruto, who will then magically realize that he's been suppressing his love for Hinata for the last 300 or so chapters. Sakura? Who's that?
*headdesk* First, Hinata hasn't even been in the manga for almost three years now (I'm not counting that two-second cameo from almost two years ago). Storyline-wise, she's been, for all intents and purposes, a non-entity. If she had a larger role in the manga over this time period, and IF she'd, y'know, ACTUALLY HAD INTERACTION WITH NARUTO, I'd be worried. But she hasn't.
Hinata is barely on Naruto's radar at this point. People who say that "Oh, Hinata's going to get together with Naruto because Sakura goes with Sasuke and that will give Naruto his happy ending" are willfully ignoring that with Naruto, it's always been about Sakura and Sasuke. He's been crushing on Sakura for the entire manga, is still crushing on her as of the current chapter (with signs that she's starting to reciprocate) and I won't even go into the whole mess with Sasuke. Naruto's "happy ending" would be having both Sakura and Sasuke at his side, not him being arbitrarily smashed together with Hinata as a consolation prize, because honestly? The two of them deserve better than that.
If, god forbid, Hinata did end up wounding herself to save him, Naruto would certainly be pissed and upset. However, Hinata's wounding/death would not affect him the way that Sakura's or Sasuke's potentially would, because they are his most important people. Not Hinata, who at the moment is nothing more than a casual friend to him and whose death would be nothing more than a cheap shock tactic in such a situation, because she's simply not that important to him. Hell, Sai's death would probably affect Naruto more than Hinata's would, since not only is he Naruto's teammate who's actually been with him for more than a few seconds, Naruto (and Sakura) were his first real friends and helped snap him out of his emotionless shell. He's had development and interaction with Naruto. Hinata hasn't had that for literally years.
So, yeah: not seeing it, not buying it, and if Kishimoto has the teremity to try it, I'm flying to Japan and beating his ass down.
The only way that Hinata is allowed to get seriously wounded is if Kabuto shows up out of nowhere to save her again. Because I said so. And it'll really fuck with everyone's brains which is always a plus.
