Character Background: Your Name is KANAYA MARYAM. You are a troll from Alternia. You have a fondess of horror and romance novels, especially those about the Rainbow Drinkers and you enjoy fashion and gardening. It helps that you are one of the only trolls who can stand the suns rays on Alternia.
Kanaya, like the other trolls, was technically formed through a cloning process which happened while the trolls were playing the game Sgrub. I know, it's some of that Weird Time Shit that pops up all over Homestuck but considering how many characters you have here already you're probably used to this so lets just move on. It's best just to accept it.
All the trolls have a Lusus which looks over them. A guardian, if you will. Their parents are nowhere to be found, all part of a complex troll breeding system which falls under a complex troll romance system. It is so complex, in fact, that humans have a very hard time grasping exactly how it works. That's multiculturalism for you. Kanaya's Lusus is a virgin Mother Grub, which is a very rare occurrence. Generally Mother Grubs are involved in that whole troll breeding process, but this one decided to be Kanaya's Lusus instead. Pretty nifty.
Kanaya and the trolls and company get this game, Sgurb, and proceed to pair off into two teams (Red and Blue) and enter the game, although in reality they are all going to link up so the whole two teams thing is rather superfluous. Anyway she becomes the last of the Red Team to enter, thus becoming Vriska's server player, and the client player for Equius, of the Blue Team. Everything ends up matching up. Her Land is The Land of Rays and Frogs.
Before she manages to enter the game, like the other trolls, her Lusus dies. She takes from her Lusus the Matriorb and takes it with her until she later needs it. Which, of course, she will.
The game doesn't exactly go as planned, they do happen to make the universe that the kids are from (in other words, Earth) but there's a scratch and they are unable to really win, so to speak. The trolls then settle on an Asteroid in the Veil and proceed to start trolling the kids.
While in the game, Kanaya stumbled upon Rose's guide to playing, so she's reluctant to troll Rose at first. She ends up going and ahead and trolling Rose but in the first conversation John is talking to her instead and she doesn't realize it. She is sorely disappointed. She gives it a second go and starts to talk to Rose a lot more, and even insists that they should be friends. She seems to want to help Rose, either by aiding Rose's plan, or by trying to dissuade Rose from doing something really stupid.
While all the trolling is going on she finds a key and then knows she has to take the Matriorb to hatch the Mother Grub. Meanwhile shit has been going down at the Veil but that's more or less unrelated. When she goes to take the orb, Eridan shows up and gets in a huge fight, knocks out Sollux, and then kills Kanaya. Or so it seems. As we know now she actually becomes a super cool rainbow drinker, kicks ass, shit hits the fan, etc. etc. But I'm taking her from the moment we're still all unsure on what's going on. Rather than playing her as the lightbulb you can't turn off at night, it's like BAM IS THIS WHAT DEATH IS LIKE. Or something. You get the picture.
Abilites/Special Powers: Not much is said on how she fared during the game, other than finding the guide from Rose but we have to assume she, like the others, gained plenty of levels before they reach the end. Like the others she also has a Sylladex. Kanaya uses “makeup kind” which is because her chainsaw turned into lipstick. But she definitely wields a chainsaw. Her fetch modus is chastity and she can only get the key to unlock her items when the time is right. It's very ominous.
Kanaya is the Sylph of Space. When she and Jade talk about this, Jade says describes it as if Kanaya is “a magical witch” to try and figure it out. Kanaya says basically, but the extent of these powers hasn't quite been looked at.
Kanaya at one point tries to be a Rainbow Drinker - essentially a troll vampire - but doesn't like the taste of the blood. Canonically she accomplishes this "post-death" but we're going to be not-quite-there. (See above)
Third-Person Sample: Village two-wheeled device, indeed. She wanted to imagine that it was raining outside her window (of course it wasn't, she lived in an oasis in the desert, what did you think this was? Prongedfoodutensils, Alternia? No, of course not.) She stared into the mirror as she slid the jade-green lipstick across her lips. There you go, Kanaya, don't worry about other people. You're beautiful.
Suddenly, she pushes the back of her hand across her lips, smearing it all over her face and the back of her hand. But rather than observing this in the mirror, she keeps her hand right at her lips as the tears start sliding down her face.
No, Kanaya, you are better than this. Pull yourself up and put your make up back on and take the prettiest dress out of your closet and remember that just because Vriska doesn't love you and won't love you and just because Terezi is clearly in love with Karkat and because Feferi gets to be happy and because all the ladies except for you are going to some day have a wonderful relationship and you will be auspisticing for other trolls for the rest of your life does not mean it is not worth it to keep living, stop that.
She takes a deep breath and wipes the tears and the messed up lipstick off her face. She smiles in the mirror but it just looks like a grimace. She stares defiantly in the mirror until her smile looks legitimate.

All better.
