For a moment there, I thought I didn't have any female icons and might have to settle for Matsujun.

In one of our numerous procrastinatory conversations, estuansinterius mentioned to me that he'd once met a set of highly deluded "feminists" (and those quotes are for scorn, y'all) who had apparently decided that any instance of the morpheme man must be proceeded by wo. They carried this beyond such depressingly common examples as "womankind," coining "womanual" and "womanager," and I suppose, if one is utterly ignorant of Latin roots, this substitution has a certain kind of consistent logic.

But it occurred to me: you know, "man" also contains man, and as it is now far too late to ask those particular butchers of the English language, and my curiosity is most insatiable, it clearly had to be LJ poll time. My account, alas, does not allow the creation of ticky boxes, but please bear with me and vote in the comments:

"Man" should, from a radical "feminist" perspective, be more properly written as "woman."
  1. True. Male-bodied people all aspire to be female anyway.
  2. False. Men not actually part of the huwoman race anyway.
  3. Emily, you misspelled "evil oppressor."
  4. Emily, you misspelled "slave-in-training."
  5. I see you're still not studying, are you.
Alternately, explain your unique and fascinating view point missing from the above options!

vitally important poll, dragons!, punctuation abuse, not studying
