I recently got a
gmail account. Free email? More sorted, more features. Too good to be true?
Yes!
Has anyone noticed the clever advertising. It tries to be psychic, I reckon scanned by some remote process, picking up keywords on what you're writing. It then tailors this to make adverts in the side-bar. The adverts it comes up with are a constant source of amusement. Sometimes it is completely off the mark, other times it's like, I look back months after the email exchange and its like 'yes, this system is even more intelligent than me, I could have really done with going to that website about ******...'
I've noticed that if you take a while writing an email, it scans the screen and refreshes itself, often further tailoring the adverts as the email has evolved!
I watched yesterdays replies...adverts revolved from
'bird tables' (after
evildonut's comment
to
'holidays in Maui'(after
katchuri's comment.
Emails exchanged between
beyond_bananas ...holiday adverts, great offers on 'rugged' laptops;-)
A conversation thread with a lady who gives me massage (yes, really!) was trying to sell me 'lucky bamboo'
A conversation with Kissycat on polyamory led to several relationship self-help websites...
The system does however appear to be occasionally totally stumped as for the following exchange with Dylan:
How do you think just_a_monkey likes being referred to as a dancing girl? ;-)
Their reply was:
He loves being my bitch
