Another one. Another one like him.

Hello. You do not seem so disturbed by arriving here, that is very much good, I am thinking.

I have not yet had time to be disturbed. Perhaps in another day I shall be.

It better if you never be disturbed. Then you can be nice and surprise when a curse day hit.

Or you know, try and keep your head about you.

I have heard of these curses, but I have not yet seen them in effect.

I will keep my head and endure. I know how to do that.

I sure your friend Mr. de Lioncourt will help you.

But, from my experience, I will say endurance is the best quality. No matter how bad things become, in some time, they will leave again. Then all you must worry about is to lose your friends.

There is no need to worry about that. It is inevitable.

Yes. At some point, I guess that does not bother you so much.

I have been left alone often enough that I cannot allow it to.

I see...

In that case, I am sorry.

There is nothing for you to be sorry for. It is inevitable.

Yes, but...

I thinking, I was alone too, so that is why my friends have so much meaning. To lose so much you no longer worry, that is very sad.

It hurts less. Every so often, I let myself forget or hope or try and it always ends.

That is part of it too, though, isn't it?

Yes, though I wish it were not. How much loss and how many partings can one person take?

Enough of that. I am not myself tonight. I would not visit my cares on a stranger in this way.

Perhaps you would be less a stranger if you would tell me your name.

In the City, people feel less of strangers even though we come from scattered worlds. Our situations may be so different in homes, but here, we are all just residents, no matter what.

My name is Machi Tobaye. What is yours?

Armand.

We are all just residents, no matter what. I don't think you understand how I cannot encompass that idea. It goes against all of my life's habits and training.
