The GAA have done it again, they have reorganised the structure of the hurling championship for 2008. It is much more complicated now. There are 12 teams selected for the championship, five in Munster, five in Leinster, and Galway and Antrim. It annoys the hell out of me that it changes so much each year. As soon as they decided the old system was not right they shouls have had seperate provincial championships early in the summer and then an open draw, possibly with seeds, nationwide to determine the All Ireland. At the very least there should be one agreed way that they allow to bed in for a number of years.

In answer to your questions, Westmeath are in so the original 12 is now 13. I have written to the GAA to ask what happens to the 2 leinster rd 1 losers but heve not heard from them, hopefully they haven't over looked this!!

As far as Down winning promotion is concerned, this opens up a bigger issue. There is a full Ulster championship taking place, staggered like the rest so Antrim and down get straight to the semis. The nonsense is however that no matter who wins the Ulster championship Antrim still have the place in the All Ireland, so you can have the situation where Down win the Ulser Championship but Antrim carry on in the competition.
