I am happy to announce, that one of my favorite movements,
The Girl Effect was recently shown on
Oprah!
Oprah is indeed the most influential person in the world. I am sad that she will be closing the show after running it for 25 years. She is so powerful, that after The Girl Effect was featured on her show and on her site, it has gained between 500 to 1,000
new Facebook fans an hour and traffic on The Girl Effect site spiked five-fold ever since! I think anything shown on her show will gain a huge awareness. Amazing.
For those that are unaware, The
Nike Foundation and
Peter and Jennifer Buffett who co-chair the NoVo Foundation colloborated last year, to invest in The Girl Effect.
In developing countries, girls remain uneducated, marry early and undergo early childbirth and land up with HIV/AIDS more so than boys. This movement aims to allow every girl to have a right to be educated and not be stripped off that right just because.. she is a girl. Please visit the official Girl Effect website for more details. Also, more about this initiative is summarized
here.
Please support The Girl Effect.
