Chicken stock ramen

Dumplings were good

Since our trip back from Japan, we have been on the hunt for the perfect Ramen here in Singapore. Sadly, it is indeed hard to find. Or perhaps, we aren't looking hard enough!

Till today, I still crave for ramen from that fantastic ramen shop at Ebisu. We ate there at least 2-3 times. True white pork bone soup with huge pieces of char siew. I can still distinctly remember the taste of each chewy strand of ramen and that oh-so delicious sweet stock soup.

There is always a long queue forming at Marutama Ra-Men, located on the 3rd floor of Central. B.T has eaten there before and he says it's not bad. We decided to grab a bowl and got a seat easily, only because it was not during the standard eating hours. I think the real reason why the queues are always long is because there isn't many seats inside! And most are for parties of 6.

Anyway, this ramen shop is unique. It serves ramen in chicken stock soup instead of the usual pork bone. There are only 3 kinds of ramen, regular, spicy and a special where the soup is made up of various nuts. A few sides and drinks and that is the entire menu. I love the concept of a simple menu - just a few good options. What is also cool, is that if can opt for a 'top up' of ramen, for an additional S$2. Just leave sufficient soup in your bowl. Pretty neat.

The verdict? The chicken stock soup is yummy and something different. I finished every drop of it up. The ramen isn't typical, and it is in fact quite similar to wanton noodles. I wouldn't spend time queueing for it but if there isn't a queue, I might patronize it again.

Meanwhile, Tampopo is still tops for my favorite ramen place here!
