I was reading the Sunday Times yesterday, and I was nodding my head to the comment written by Nur Dianah Suhaimi.
I wonder why we're judge as being a Malay girl, and especially so for those wearing our religion on our head. Being in tudung doesn't necessarily mean I'm not capable to think, nor being able to articulate properly/confidently about the world issues that's affecting me. Underneath this tudung, I'm still me. A breathing, thinking, emotional human being. Yes, and a hungry one as well XD
I personally think that in a country like Singapore, like it or not, you will tend to meet someone in tudung at least ONCE in your life. Chat up with her, get to know her before passing judgement. I used to have many good friends that are Chinese, but we lost contact once we were in JC, but that doesnt stop me from befriending anyone non-Malay. I personally like to make friends with them, cause I'd like to widen my understanding about their thoughts, life, culture. And it's amazing! We can talk about anything, including Islam. Knowing that they're non-Malays doesnt stop me from befriending them. They're still human being after all. Being respected as a human being is much more important than being thought of as "you're of this race or that race" .
So why should people still pass off remarks about race in this country?
And do take note, Islam is NOT a race. It is a RELIGION. Race does NOT equal to Religion.
Want proof? Ask me. I'll give you one.
