A little creative writing?

Not based on a true story:

It was a clear, sunny, New Zealand day, and I was preparing to go with some company on a scenic cruise through the beautiful Doubtful Sound. We boarded a bus, which took us to the docking area, and there we prepared to embark on the cruise. It was then that I first saw her. Her bright orange shirt caught my eye at first, but I was soon drawn to the rest of her, catching only a quick glimpse of her radiant beauty. From afar I admired her for a moment, but it soon came time to find our seats aboard the vessel. I followed those who I was with, and was led to an empty area, which I immediately noticed was right across from where she sat. Coincidence? I looked at her again, more scrutinizing this time, noticing as much as I could about her. My gazing was hidden by my reflective sunglasses, so I subtly glanced at her, trying to discern whether she had even noticed my presence. As I did so, I caught glimpses of her more subtle features, like her bright, pretty, eyes, and a magnificent but not overused smile. I also observed the way she acted-reserved, but not aloof, engaging, but not overly tactile-and found that those around her seemed to warm to her quickly. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her.
As I gazed, fantasies began to spawn in my mind. There was nothing crude or vulgar, of course, but more on the romantic side. I envisioned myself in the positions of those around her, carrying on a simple conversation, or getting a chance to interact with her and get to know her. I closed my eyes, starting to carry a conversation in my head, but then found that I preferred them open and looking. Somehow, I believed that she would be responsive to my words, and I imagined a conversation in which I found her to be similar to me. When the elder woman next to her placed an arm around her shoulder, I imagined that to be my arm, wrapping her in a caring and comforting embrace. When the staff began serving lunch to the passengers, I imagined dining with her, enjoying a tender moment in a romantic setting and spending more time discovering our developing connection. My imagination ran wild as I pictured myself alongside a wonderful girl whose beauty was but a shadow of the human soul inside.
I had lost track of the time passing, though I carried on a conversation with the people around me, occasionally added to it while still admiring her. Eventually, the captain’s voice was heard throughout the cabin, alerting all passengers that some dolphins were in sight. Everybody rushed out onto the deck, and we all stared out on the water in anticipation, as each person had an idea of what they were going to see. Soon the dolphins became visible, their shiny gray fins just breaking the surface. We watched them swim for awhile, and in those moments my mind was completely taken from her. It was brought back abruptly as I noticed that she was standing behind me. I moved to the side a bit, correctly anticipating that she would fill the gap. Then the dolphins began to play, leaping into the air to a chorus of awestruck passengers. They first leapt individually, then began to jump in groups, mostly groups of two. Their pathways crossed, perfectly timed, as if each knew what the other was planning to do. I sneaked a glance sideways to gauge her reaction. Then, it was as if my heart leapt with each dolphin, as I saw her eyes light up in delight with every jump. My eyes darted between each magnificent sight.
Eventually the performance ended, and the ship turned away and continued its trek through the sound. I returned to the inside of the boat, to where she was, but was soon separated when my company decided to return outside. The rest of the trip passed without event, and we returned to the docking area, with everyone’s minds still on the dazzling display of dolphin play that we had witnessed. As we all disembarked, she was in front of me in the line to get off the boat, and we all headed together to the buses which would conclude our journey. I was behind her, and I watched her get onto a bus that I noticed was different from the one that I was to board. I blinked in astonishment-it had seemed like events were bringing us closer. I was dazed at this turn of fate, but I boarded my bus without hesitation and found my way to a seat, where I quickly glanced through the window. I could see her, staring out of the window with a faraway look in her beautiful eyes. I never saw her again.
