I
had my first voice lesson today!!!!! My teacher's name is Dave and I
LOVE HIM! He is soo funny! Nearly everything he said he meant as a joke
or came out as one. I kept laughing! It made me a lot less nervous. He
was cool. I so can not wait until next Thursday! Here, let me tell you about the lesson.
I got there and looked around at some of the music books. I found this
really cool Billy Joel one that as soon as I can play the music on my
piano I am so getting.
While looking for a metronome (sp?) Dave came looking for me. we went
back into this little room with a piano, piano bench, two chairs, a
little microphone in the front corner, and a recording thing on the
back wall.
Ok well we walked in, he sat down on the piano bench and asked me to
have a seat. He asked me a few questions like "What experience do you
have with music" and like always my answer was "Little. I was in
musicals with my old school." and that was pretty much that whole
conversation. Then he asked me to stand up next to the piano. He played a
scale starting at middle c and told me to sing it. I did. After that he
kept playing scales higher and higher until I couldn't sing them
anymore. (I was surprised on how high I could go before I couldn't sing
them anymore) After that he started around middle c and played them
down... well that was trouble. For some reason I couldn't hear and sing
them. Later he told me it was because I was getting annoyed with myself
and was listening to my voice instead of to the note he was playing on
the piano.
After the scales he told me to sit again.. so I sat in the chair turned
on its side in the upper corner-ish. He attempted to teach me how to
breath through my abdomen instead of in my chest.... that went oddly.
At one point he said "Make sure when you move your stomach in and out
there is air going through there. This isn't belly dance." at that point
I said "funny you should say that. My mom is a belly dance teacher." he
said "Oh really? I haven't had any students so far that knew any
belly dancers (or knew what belly dancing was.. I don't remember exactly)"
He told me that I have a wonderful amount of natural talent and a great
potential. He also said that he is really excited about getting to work
with me. wow. I love him. This is so the right place for me.
He told me to bring in a song (with sheet music) next week that I would
like to work on... I am debating between Think of Me and Wishing You
Where Somehow Here Again. (both are from phantom.) PLEASE LET ME KNOW
WHICH ONE YOU THINK I SHOULD PICK!
Ok enough of that now.
My grandma is teaching me how to play the piano again. I have nearly
totally forgotten. I haven't had lessons sense I was 8 or 9. I hope I
will be able to progress quickly. I really want to be able to play
Think of Me like that one guy at the hotel. He was awesome. I was
nearly crying hearing it played to beautifully. Music is really a big
part of me. Weather it is played, sang, or danced it does not matter.
I should probably go. I have a funeral early tomorrow morning for my mom's friend's mom.
Night!!!!
and remember tell me which song I should pick!
