Well, a couple of updates on the job front, just some of it is not the best news in the world. First things first, about two weeks back I informed the principal at the school where I work that I cannot work with the student I am assigned to next year, due to my physical limitations (I just can't lift him up anymore). She advised me to contact the Special Ed. Director for the entire district. So, that's what I did, informing the secretary at the very least about the situation and that I need a new position. Well, after a week of waiting, I was offered four different positions. Two of them are located in a room much worse than the one I am currently in, so those two are out of the picture. The other two did have some potential, but I wanted to look into them more before saying yes or no. I called the directors office back and left another message with the scretary once again, if I could possibly meet the children before giving an answer. While waiting for that answer, I talked to the ABA that has a case in the school about the two other options. She didn't know anything about one of them, but the other postion she gave me some information about. She said the kid isn't that bad, though there could be problems. The staff at the school however, she said would not be very helpful. Doesn't sound too appealing to me, so I figured I would pass on that one as well. Now we come to today, when I got a phone call from the director himself. He went through a number of different positions that are in the district. However, all of the positions either involve helping the student with their physical needs (exactly what I'm trying to get away from now) or the students have severe behavioral needs (similar to the student that I was with last year that I wanted away from as well). At the end of the phone call, I told the director that none of the positions appealed to me and I am really looking for something different. He said that he would keep me in mind if other things opened up, but I think I sealed my fate today and will not have a position in September.
In other news, there's only two days left of work at this point. Both of the remaining two days are half days as well, where it's two hours of school tomorrow and only a hour on Friday. We just have to stay an extra hour on both days and then that's it for the school year. It is kind of sad though that the year is coming to an end. I'm going to miss the kids since I had a great time with them this year. Lots of good memories that I hope I do not forget, and some that I do hope will get out of my head and I not remember them every 5 minutes. I'll even miss my co-workers, even though they do get on my nerves quite a bit. Like I said earlier though, I'm not sure what's going to happen next year so I am a bit worried about that. This might be the end of working as a Teaching Assistant and the time to move on to something else. That's something else that I have been talking about recently as well, going back to college and getting a degree in something else. My teaching licence is set to expire in two years come Spetember 1, and remember I still have to teach two years to keep the degree. What a pain this whole experience has been.
As for an update on the job searching front, I mailed a few more applications to some school districts in New Jersey last week. I also got another one of my favorite letters in the mail from another school distict too. That would be a "thank's for appling but the position is filled" letter. I'll probably do another search this weekend for other jobs but I'm at the point right now where I really really really want to give up. Well, I'll leave things here for now so I can go and get ready for bed. Bye for now!
