Dear yuletide writer
First of all, thank you so much for volunteering to write in one of the tiny fandoms of my heart. Just having fic in one of these fandoms is enough to make me happy so I am sure that I will love whatever you write.
I'm going to give you some of my likes and dislikes right up front, because I know some people would rather know that. If you want a flavour of some of the things that I love writing - and therefore reading - so far I've written Blade: Trinity, which is under the 'fic fandom: blade trinity' tag and Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, which is under the 'fic fandom: other' tag on my DW/LJ/IJ. However, I really don't expect you to wade through my stories at all - I'm just putting it out there in case that's the kind of information you like to have :-)
Likes
I'm all about the female characters in the vast majority of my fandoms. I like strong, competent women, but strong doesn't necessarily mean break down the door, kick ass strong. I like women in all of their flavours - from the warriors to the homemakers, from the CEOs to those just muddling through - but I like women who are not afraid to speak their mind or take charge or be good at what they do.
I like subtlety and understated feelings - I'm more for quiet or awkward exchanges than outright declarations, unless outright declarations are in character. Either plot or PWP is fine with me, because I'm all about the connections between the characters, the friendships built on firm foundations, the love both romantic and practical. I like snark and banter if that's in character, but also gentle touches and kissing (I could read entire stories about kissing). As far as subject matter goes, at the end of the day, it's the words and the rhythms of them that make me happy so whether you want to go slice of life, deeply plotted, or simply write a thousand words of porn, it's all good with me.
Dislikes
Given the above, it is unsurprising that my pet hates are minimising the contributions of female characters or erasing them from the narrative. Other things include characters acting out of character to further the plot rather than the plot arising out of the characters (I love character driven plots). I don't mind hurt/comfort as long as there is some comfort, but I'm not fond of non-con (although I can deal with it when it's canon). I'm afraid that agendafic or extreme kink doesn't do a great deal for me. Also, because Yuletide is my happy place, no character death or resolutely unhappy endings, please (angsty or bittersweet are fine, as long as there's some hope).
Hopefully that hasn't scared you off :-) so onto the actual requests.
Blade (Movie Series)
Given the characters that I have requested for this fandom, it shouldn't come as a great surprise to find out that when I say Blade (Movie Series) what I really mean is Blade: Trinity.
I love Abigail. She's strong and she's brave and although she's very reserved, she feels things deeply. And I love, love, love her with Hannibal King. They complement each other so well, whether you treat their relationship as simply friendship, as more akin to siblings or - like me - ship it like woah!
As for Hannibal King, what's not to love? He's snarky and crude and rude, but he's never less than entertaining and there is more than the occasional hint throughout the movie of something deeper and broken lying just beneath the surface.
If you could manage it I would love a story about the pair of them together, but I do know that not everyone in this fandom is interested in writing het, so I'd be just as happy if you wrote gen about one or both of them. My dear yulegoat letter has more details if you need them, but the only thing I would request is please no Drake/King. The pairing dominates the fandom, but female centric stories are very, very rare and so this is my chance to get something a little different for Christmas :-). Thank you!
I haven't selected any other characters for matching purposes, but please feel free to include any from the movie that strike your fancy. I'd prefer the story to focus on Abigail and King, but if that's not possible for you and you wanted to write Hannibal and Danica before he joins the Night Stalkers, or Abigail bonding with the rest of the Night Stalkers, then that would be absolutely fine. However, if you're stuck for ideas and normally write slash, then Hannibal King/Danica Talos is canon and I'm pretty sure she shares everything with her brother, so going for a King/Danica/Asher threesome would be fine with me.
This is also fandom where I think that non-con is canon (I'm fairly sure that King/Danica wasn't all consensual his side), but while I'm happy for you to explore that, I'd prefer it not to be too explicit.
In terms of ideas, because I know some people like prompts while some people don't (so feel free to ignore any of this if you're one of the people who doesn't like prompts), then some of my favourite things to explore in fic for this fandom are: how Abigail and King first met and how she rescued him; scenes of them taking vampires down together and working as a team; Abigail and King raising Zoë post-movie; first times or even the opposite - them already being in an established relationship by the time the movie rolls around; how they fit into a world where DayStar has worked and vampires no longer exist.
These are all just prompts, so please feel free to ignore them and go your own way.
Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place
Berg and Irene, man. *Berg and Irene*. What can I say about this pair? I love that they're the kooky, crack pairing in the show, but despite that they're one of the sweetest, funniest and most enjoyable OTPs I've ever had. I love that Irene is the one who's calling the shots and that it's Berg who's the showgirl. I love that she bakes him 'I'm sorry Pete slept with your mom' muffins. I love her crazy cat lady persona and the fact that in the beginning she far prefers Pete to the wonder that is Berg. I love the physicality of them, the fact that she is so tiny and he's so big and yet, when she hugs him and bounces up and down, he's got no choice but to go along with it. I love the fact that he goes along with it and the fact that they are as fun when they're having casual sex as they are when they finally fall in love (and I love the fact that at no point is there any judging of Irene about the sex thing. About the crazy cat lady thing, yes ::g:: but not about the sex).
Anything you write me about this pairing would make me happy because how can you not be happy about Berg and Irene? And, as always, if you're not comfortable writing het, I'd be more than happy with gen about either of the characters - maybe what it's like living in Irene's head, or something about Berg and medical school. Given how small a fandom this is, and the fact that I don't think there's *any* fic about Irene, I will be thrilled with whatever you want to write.
I think I said pretty much everything in my signup, but if you want more about why I love this couple so much, then there's the fact that both of them are hysterically funny in their own right, and together they're just even funnier. I love Irene and the fact she switches between coldhearted practicality and completely whimsical, nonsensical rambling. I love Berg's self-centredness and the fact that he gets called on it but I also love the sheer joy he takes in things, like studying to be a doctor.
In terms of prompts, how about post the show and post the pregnancy scare? How do they move on from this? Does Irene ever forgive him? Does Irene ever trust him again? How far does he have to go to win her back? I love desperate Berg and the fact that for once in his life he's thinking about someone other than himself. Or you could go slice of life, a day in their kooky world. What is it that Irene does all day? Does she ever take Berg muffins at work? Does she end up volunteering at the hospital? All of this, by the way, is completely and utterly optional. As I've said, there is very, very little fic for this pairing, or about Irene as a character, so anything extra would be a bonus.
Lake Placid
I loved this movie when it first came out. I love all four of the main characters. I have a particular fondness for the pairings of Jack/Kelly and Hank/Hector, but I'd be just as happy with gen. This is one of my comfort movies because I love the banter between all of the characters, and the way that respect and warmth grows between them over the course of the movie, but mostly because I have a weakness for films in which monsters eat people in a PG-like fashion. Everyone needs a guilty pleasure and that's mine.
I love Kelly's brittleness and Jack's down to earth nature. I love Hank's exasperation with the whole lot of them and Hector's bullshit and complete lack of personal boundaries. I love the snark that flies whenever they get together, from one word to whole sentence sarcastic. The movie works so well because of the interpersonal relationships so anything I could get to carry that on would be an absolute pleasure.
Again, I don't think I have anything to add to my signup and the only real prompts I can give relate to the fact that I love the way the characters interact so you could pretty much write them meeting up at a coffee shop afterwards and I would be perfectly content. I think there is only one Hank/Hector fic in existence - and it's pretty much canon following the chewing the bark comment ::g:: - and none about Jack and Kelly, so this truly is one of the teeny, tiny fandoms of my heart.
Once Upon a Time
One of the things I love about the show is how many strong female characters it features and how they are all different. I've loved Emma since the very first episode. Snow took a little longer to grow on me but after episode three, when you finally saw her as more than simply a fairytale princess and as someone who has had a hard life and made the most of it, I fell and fell hard.
I love the relationship between Snow White and her Prince Charming, and I'm intrigued by how that's playing out between Margaret and David in Storybrooke. I love Emma and her relationship with Henry, where he desperately wants her as his mother but she's resisting because that part of her life was something she'd long since given up and moved on from. I love how both women are strong in different ways, and the connections that are slowly growing between them.
I'd be happy with Snow/James or with something that is entirely gen. And while I've selected four characters, please don't feel limited by that. I'd be quite happy with any combination of them, even if you don't want to write all four. It's just that these four are the four I'd be happiest to have a story about.
I can't add much to what I said in my signup, except to reiterate that, really, I'd be happy with any combination of those four characters - Emma and Margaret bonding, Snow/James, Emma and Henry bonding, Margaret as Henry's teacher, even David and Henry. I also love the rest of the characters in Storybrooke, so please feel free to include any that you would like.
New canon is coming out all of the time, so I don't want to limit your options by giving prompts. If anything in future episodes makes you want to write about them, please feel free. As I've already noted, I like female centric fic, but other than that please feel free to explore the entire fairytale world.
