Summary: On a great night, the Thing can dance.
~*~
On a good night, the Thing can scuttle across the floor in the moonlight, fingers snapping to a rhythm that only it feels, keeping beat to the groaning of the floorboards, the soft slither of Cleopatra in the conservatory, as the African Strangler also enjoys the soft light of the full moon.
It's a wonderful, heady feeling - or would be, if the Thing had a head. What the Thing has is soul.
On a really, really good night, the Thing gets to dance, fingers flying and soul singing. It's all about the slow, slinky glide, thumb cocked and fingers bent as the Thing struts its stuff. The Thing is a master at this: the sharp twist and snap of the tango; the leisurely rotation of the waltz; the fast rhythm of the foxtrot; the sheer joy of the electric boogaloo. It moves smoothly, each twist and slide rehearsed, spinning and salsaing as Lurch accompanies it and the music in it - both in the Thing's soul and outside it - builds to a crescendo.
On a great night, it's just perfect. On a great night, the Thing really gets its groove on, matching Lurch beat for beat, both of them straining and striving until the music sings through them.
On a great night - a truly great night, when the music moves them both - Lurch greets the crescendo with an "Urrrrgh!" and almost smiles.
