Well, I've finally succumbed to the evil that is LiveJournal... After resisting it for so long, I've given in and decided to join in in order to reap the benefits of communication that comes with it. For those who may not know much about me, I'm interested in nearly everything I can possibly do with my hands, as far as creating, making, modifying, molding, adapting, improving, or even disassembling things is concerned. I'm active in the SCA and am currently the Summits Alpine Scholar (Arts & Sciences Champion). My persona is English Circa 1570, though I still need to work out quite a bit of the details. Currently my dominant interests within the SCA are costuming, cooking, woodworking, lace, and metal casting, but as the weather improves, I'll probably start playing with blacksmithing, and other crafts again.

I'm finally making new garb for myself, with the wonderful help of fearga. I have my garb that I made for my wedding, but as I was hurrying through to make mine, plus garb for 3 groomsmen, 3 bridesmaids, helping on the wedding dress, and finally new garb for my father-in-law, I took a lot of short cuts and learned a lot in the process (including several things not to do the next time). Since then I haven't made anything complete for myself and as I've also gained a few pounds, so I'm definitely due. For this pass, I'm starting over from the skin out. Thus far I've finished (at least for now) a blackwork Elizabethan shirt based off of one from the Costume Museum in Bath, England, which is embroidered with blackwork strawberries, vines and leaves, based on a pattern from the Jane Bostock Sampler (dated 1598) that's in the Victoria and Albert Museum. I'm also finally making my own hose for the first time, with fitting help from my wife, elfie_chan.

Other projects that I'm working on is building a pavilion, which is coming along pretty well, though I have to get back to it, as well as producing things as prizes, volunteer gifts, and other such things for This year's Egil Skallagrimsson Memorial tournament (which I have the pleasure of autocratting).

I'll probably post pictures, notes, research, and things of what I've been doing and what I am doing as it goes along.

Well that's probably enough for now... I'll post more later
