Winter Fireworks???? WHA????

What do you do when you hear unexpected sounds of explosions???

Funniest thing just happened.  We live up the street from a lake that is situated smack in the middle of Seattle proper.  Not talking suburbia--it's the city.  Each Fourth of July there is a huge fireworks display over the lake.  People gather at the park down the street and all throughout surrounding  neighborhoods--it's big. It's televised.  My mom watches it on TV and she lives 300 miles away.

Anyway, here it is Saturday evening in January, and my husband and I are puttering around listening to the news and thinking about dinner, when we start hearing lots of loud pops--like explosions.  We hear them for about 5 minutes before we straggle outside to greet some of our equally puzzled neighbors.  Lo and Behold, down at the lake and way up in the sky, there is a huge fireworks display in progress.  One to rival, or possibly even better the 4th of July show---but no one knows why.  WHY???   Is it your birthday???  Did the war end (yeah, you bet). What's going on?   N one had heard anything about it.  A surprise fireworks display in the middle of winter, with the lovely space needle and buildings of Seattle standing  behind the really good bunch of exploding lights.  (I'm sure there were people with dogs outside who went into a bit of a panic)

Finally one of us says, could it be Microsoft  (we are in the land where Microsoft lives)?   Could it be because they are launching VISTA??

Sure enough I came inside and checked the web.  Just announced--it's MIcrosoft but it's not Vista--it's some game they are launching--a game called Vanishing Point, and apparently there have been events like this around the country--each with clues that will lead some lucky person to win...something or other....

Huh.
Huh?

Huh.
