I’ve always been willing to listen to the other side but the others have proven that they aren’t willing to listen to me. It’s fine if you all think I’m stupid or an idiot, that’s your issue, I know I’m not either of those, most of the time anyway. I’m willing to allow you to be angry about whatever or whoever. However a few posts on my friends list, and one in particular, made me more than a little angry and it’s eaten at me for days. Basically they are accusing the mainly rural states of being afraid of "change" and so called "big city" issues, mainly GLBT rights. At first I was just going to let it pass and not post my response but you know some things just can’t be left unsaid. So it made me look stuff up on GLBT issues about companies and states that have passed legislation that benefit GLBT people.
I found this web site
Human Rights Campaign, which has a database listing companies that offer Domestic Partnership Benefits, and yes I work for one, as well as states that have non-discrimination laws benefiting the GBLT community. If you notice New Mexico is in every list, where as New York is not, which was a surprise.
Maybe New Mexico is not as uneducated and bass akwards as you think. We just have other issues that are more important to us, and no it’s not abortion. The GBLT issues have already been covered, at least here in New Mexico. I’m sure the marriage/civil union issue will be raised in the Roundhouse in January. But you have to admit we’re a lot more progressive than some of the so called progressive states.
