I have a Livejournal? I have a Livejournal! Even when I don't post, I still check it, so I do remember it exists. For sure. I just don't set aside time for updates. Uhhh, at the moment I'm on an airplane above California, about to land in LA for Gallifrey One. EXCITING! Having a laptop at all is exciting, really, best Christmas present ever.
Still no bakery job, but I'm continuing the search. This semester I only have the two lab classes (cake decorating - fun! - and basic food prep) and an online psych course that's required for the degree. Which I really should declare, I don't know what the benefit is of that but I suppose I ought to do it eventually. I'm really enjoying cake decorating so far, though we had that big ice storm right in the first few weeks of class that closed the school for three days of the food prep class. I'm less enthused, but the prof is hilarious, and I think I'll manage to rock it.
I'm working on expanding my social life again, the project I started last New Year's and have been improving on steadily. Since I only have class Mon-Thurs and no regularly-scheduled job at the moment, I went and joined the local Rocky Horror & Repo! The Genetic Opera shadowcast that several of my friends are on. It's been fun, something very different than anything I've done before, and I even managed to survive my first show last week with only a few blips.
Today's exciting adventure, though, is GALLIFREY ONE, woo! I go through phases of cosplay work, so I didn't actually fully finish my Erimem costume to where I wanted it to be, but I'm bringing what I have anyway because hey, Peter Davison is going to be there. Can't skip out on cosplaying one of the Fifth Doctor's companions. So I kind of pulled an all-nighter last night, getting the costume to a point where I was okay with wearing it at a con, and I still have a little work to do but I think I'll manage.
The airport kind of failed horribly, but luckily I got there with enough time that it didn't matter. I had seen a note on the online checkin system that DFW Airport had some traffic issues on the north entrance due to construction, luckily, so I didn't lose any time putzing with that - I just skipped around to the south side. But for some reason, the self-service checkin couldn't find my reservation so I could print out my boarding pass and get my garment bag checked, so I had to wait in line. And wait. And wait. Of course, the priority line had no issues and their dedicated agent was pulling people through like clockwork, but priority passengers just kept on coming, and meanwhile the two agents in my line both had passengers with major difficulties to take care of, grr. It made me nervous, but security went smoothly (AND I didn't get porno-scanned or groped \o/) and I had a few minutes to grab a bite to eat before boarding.
I spotted a nice young man with a Seven sweater in his arms, so I went over and made friends with this guy Rich and his mother, who were headed to Gally as their first convention. They're both cosplaying too, so I'll have to say hi when I see them around - always nice to make new local fan friends! He'd heard of the DFW Cosplay Gallifrey group, but hadn't ever met any of the people in it. I'll have to get his contact info and nudge him if anything interesting happens.
The plane itself rather made up for any annoyances and stress outside the gate area, at least. I'd gone online when I booked my tickets and chosen seats near the front of the plane, because I prefer getting to board last and get off first, and it just seems smoother. So I picked out 13E, and I'm fairly sure the plane diagram was the pretty standard 3-aisle-3 setup and the 13th row was just a few behind first class. When I got on with my boarding pass, I had to look back and forth just to make sure I wasn't imagining things, but no - I don't know what it was before, but the plane I boarded was a 777 and row 13 is in BUSINESS CLASS. It's super sexy. I'm sitting here all kicked back in the 20-direction reclining seat with my legs stretched out in front of me, feet hanging in open air, snuggled under a quilt. The guy next to me had the same thing happen, he was terribly confused (seemed like he was less travel-savvy, which made his confusion all the greater).
I have row 13 for my return flight, too. I wonder if I'll get such a pleasant surprise again, or if it'll turn out to be a more normal plane?
10 minutes to landing! I suppose I should shut down. Before long I'll be hanging with my awesome online friends, geeking out hardcore. Can't wait~!
