Last night's results on "American Idol" were based on 60 million, the highest of the season. Clearly, a lot of people were weighing in (or registering multiple votes, more likely) to decide who would make the Top 4.
Lauren's reaction at being in the bottom 2 was exactly what I had expected. She can't take the music industry RIGHT NOW. She's not emotionally strong for it. She should go home, finish school and THEN give music a try.
As for Haley, that's what happens when the Little Monsters (=Lady Gaga fans) which, if you think about it, make up Idol's core audience band together... ;)
I felt so bad for Lauren, even though I was convinced it was Jacob going home. It doesn't help that the judges have given her very little constructive criticism but just heaped praises on her. And I think she's been reading too many message boards and internalizing the negative comments. They really should be encouraged to stay away from those things.
She will be a great performer in about five years, and you're right: school matters more right now.
I hadn't thought about Lady Gaga's fans as making up the core "Idol" audience. It wasn't that long ago no one knew who she was! But I do remember that "Idol" fans were intrigued with Gaga when she first performed on the show.
Idol's audience is mostly teenagers/very young kids, which also happen to be her audience. I am old enough to be her mother (she's 25, I'm 43) and I'm a massive fan of hers, so I was personally offended with the "a song nobody knows" comment. If you are a fan of Gaga, you know the song because you're gonna follow her TV performances (in my case) or go to her shows repeatedly, and she's been playing the damn song there. I voted for Haley twice, but I bet you dollars to donuts the Monsters went out in force to support her.
Great point! I figured that Gaga songs would know that song, so it seemed an odd critique by the judges. I personally voted for Haley about 25 times, using the online voting option. She's really grown!
